This morning me and my boyfriend got woken up by the pigs, someone was chirping like a bird so loudly, and for a good minute or so. It was the time i would usually be up in the morning but today i have a late one, could they be chirping for food?
On the guinea pig manual i am pretty sure it was the "chirping" http://www.guineapigmanual.com/guinea-pig-sounds/ and it says it could be for food. They all seemed fine when i came to check on them, i re filled their hay and pellets.
Has anyone else heard this noise?

Chirping! A rare sound - no one knows why they do it

Here's a link to Sarah-Sores chirper the other day caught on video http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/showthread.php?108402-Callie-chirping!&highlight=Chirping

Hi,

I have never had a guineapig do it until now. After a few months of getting mine one woke me up doing it in the middle of the night, I was worried but googled about it and it seemed fine.

A couple of weeks ago it happened again I think only one of the two does it.

I would love to see it happening but mine are covered at night so I can't see it I also think that the guinea would stop.

I had read they go into a trance like state with their head in the air and their lips going in and out. It said it could be mating call or just happiness, who knows I'd like to think happiness lol.

I wouldn't worry though. It does sound like a bird is in the house though. rolleyes x

I've heard chirping around twice from the same guinea pig, my Pebbles just sat there chirping away!

Apparently it's a sign of happiness, but other people say a sign of distress? Maybe they do it for different reasons.

Very strange! I don't know who it was, when i came out from my bedroom and started talking to them and whoever it was stopped doing it. But they have all been acting normal today so i don't think they are distressed. I think i will go with that they wanted their breakfast! :)
