Hi everyone, I've recently finished my C&C cage and moved the pigs in and they love it ... popcorning and charging around like loonies. The only problem is they are eating the correx sides and I wonder if this could do any harm? I've given them toys, a chew tube, a wooden chew toy and piggy sofas! They have plenty to be entertained with but still the correx is their prime target.

I think quite a lot of pigs eat correx given a chance. I tuck the fleece up over the edges of the correx so they generally can't get to it. Every now and then they manage to have a little nibble. Hasn't caused any problems but I wouldn't want them to eat large amounts.

:)

Hmmm ... I use profleece so can't wrap that round the sides as one I haven't enough and two its too thick. Perhaps I am going to have to cut the sides away to just below the level of the fleece and just put up with poops everywhere ... mind you I may end up with leakages aswell! They have not stopped eating it and I have big chunks missing out of all sides of it now. I don't know what the answer is but I am not happy with them eating it like this.

Ours do the same, we have taken to using giant paperclips to secure the fleece over it but even then they'll get under the fleece demolishing all my hard work and start chewing on it again so it seems as though it's a constant battle for us as well! Ours also have wooden toys to chew on, chubes, a constant supply of pellets and hay, wooden houses etc so why they insist on chewing the correx is beyond me!

Glad I'm not the only one Gems. They must have been in the new cage nearly 2 weeks now but the chewing has gotten worse! There must be something about it that they love.

Unfortunately there is nothing natural in Correx anyway, I wouldn't recommend any little piglets chewing and swallowing it...of course it's plastic...but the problem is there are different types of plastic and some plastic give off chemicals.....anyway...all very techy stuff.

I'd just recommend you try and deter our furry friends from gnoring on it...if you find the answer let me know...and it can form part of the piggy training manual! Good luck.

posted this a while back has stopped chocco and marvin eating the sides of their cage :) hope it helps
