:)Hi - I've had an idea! I'll collect all piggies favourite foods, then create one more thread listing them for any new piggy owners who are unsure of what to feed their pigs. So, what are your piggies favourite food? ?/ I'll start with mine! 8) Please try not to repeat any if possible!

x)THE LISTx)

Green Beans
Dandelion
Cucumber

Perhaps it's worth adding a note of caution to some of our piggies favourite foods.
Eg: Carrots, only as an occasional treat as high in sugar ; dandelions, don't over do these because they're a diuretic.
My piggies favourite is parsely but you should only give this as an occasional treat as it's high in calcium and you don't want to risk bladder stones. Parsley is always a nice post operative treat when you bring your piggies back from the vets.

The first thing all of my piggies go for when it's veg time is lettuce, they can't get enough of it. As AndreaJane mentioned, this one also comes with a caution note; Don't feed iceberg lettuce, firstly it's not very nutritious, but secondly and most importantly, it contains a toxin that can cause an upset stomach and diarrhea.

THE LIST

Any with a dash have a warning, pointed out helpfully by a member, so be careful on what you feed your guinea pigs!

Green Bean
Dandelion - Has diuretic, so do not feed as daily food.
Cucumber
Carrot - High in sugars, again, only use for treats.
Celery
Cabbage
Brocoli
Pepper
lettuce - no Iceberg lettuce, as that can give diarrhoeal and stomach problems
Banana
Corn on the cob
Melon
Curly Kale

Hello

Great idea!

We do already have a sticky thread which lists what piggies can and cannot have and the warnings to go along side them. E.g. feed in moderation due to acid - can cause mouth sores.

But I do think it's a nice idea to list what our piggies favourite food are, but do need to be careful as mentioned by AndreaJane that there are the relevant warnings but foods we need to feed with caution.

Some of mine love Apple :) But you need to be careful as its acidic which I think causes mouth sores.

xx

Spring greens.
Cauliflower (great alternative to broccolli as i found out int he great broccoli shortage of 2012. high in vit c and easy on thier tummmies i believe)

Basil is like their drug we cant bring fresh into the house unless they are getting some as they go nuts!

My silly pig dislikes almost everything that's good for him, greens etc.! He does, however, LOOOOOVE blueberries. (Obviously all fruit just a couple times a week!)
