So this Thursday we will have had our piggies for 2 weeks they are doing great and am so proud of my 8 year old daughter, she cleans out their poop twice a day and sits in their enclosure with them and chats to them and has even managed to brush one of them he loves it! he lays down in front of her so she can stroke him! they both take food from our hands. they still do not want to be picked up but are getting very brave with us :)IMG_1669 2.webpIMG_1671.webpIMG_1667 2.webp

Awwwwww

Aren't they doing well! They are looking really tame there! Well done to you and your daughter, you are giving your pigs such a caring home.

Barnaby purred when we stroked him today hope this is a good thing! Also Teddy we think keeps doing a mating dance he makes a purr like sound and swings his hips while walking around?! is this normal with 2 boars? (or do i need to check that barnanby is in fact a boy?!)

Aww looks like your daughter has an affinity with guineas, I’ve never had two boars but my two girls I had they did exactly the same thing usually because one is more dominant, soon as I brought them home Ruby was really bad at it and like you I didn’t know this and questioned her sex and joined here and learnt a lot x

The purr when stroking is often a get off my butt or stop ruffling my fur (or for my baby one - I may be small but you can't just pick me up woman). There is a happy purr but I have never had one who did that (I get little chuts, quocks and low volume squeaks). The rumble strutting is normal dominance. Jet used to do it to Dozy - both certainly male, indeed Jet will rumble past me now and he certainly thinks his new Harem of girlies (he is neutered and has been for years) needs a rumble strut every 5 min or so.

Thank you She is Animal mad! we teach our children at home so looking after them is all part of her schooling, before we got them she had to read some books and do a project on guinea pigs. She just loves nature, she already has 2 gerbils called burpy and gingerbread and we also have spike the hamster. Thanks to her we also have a cat that is not our cat who walks in like he owns the place! (although making sure the cat gets nowhere near the piggies!) I see a zoo in our future!

Thank you! I was thinking it may be a dominance thing they are just entering their 'teenage months' so i am sure there will be lots more to come. They have been together since birth but not brothers the lady we got them from wanted them to stay together as they are inseparable and they do get on very well I have made sure there are 2 hideaways incase they want to be on there own but they always cuddle up together i am hoping they stay close friends!

Aww, sounds like me when I was little and she’ll always love guineas too. It’s hard to describe the passion for guineas, just lovely animals, once they are used to you you’ll be taking pics of chookens. X

I am so glad we chose Guinea pigs she has been on about rabbits for the last couple of years but after looking into the guinea pigs i loved what i found out i love them! And my daughter is so taken with them x

What a lovwly way to be educated.

They stay children for longer! We love it. We try to teach them what they want to learn about (obviously do the basics like maths and english) that way they are so enthusiastic about learning, our eldest is in college he has had no stress and done 1 GCSE a year and is doing well with his IT and computing qualifications. But i see my daughter going towards animal care so start her at an early age! :)
