So Sunday night before Christmas my asthma flared up, and has lasted till last weekend. It’s more than likely that it was triggered by the piggies, so unfortunately they’ll have to move out when it gets warmer. We can’t get a shed to keep them in so would be just hutches with covers and so on.

Please can someone give me a conclusive list of what I’d need.

We don’t want to give them up, so these few months will give me time to get the funds together for outdoor living. Thanks in advance.

You will need a insulating cover and a thermal cover on top of that like similar to Hutch Covers to help keep them warm in the colder months, fleecy hideys and fleecy tubes, snuggle safes and loads and loads of hay to keep them warm (I use twice as much hay in the winter than in the summer). I also have a blanket that I put over the front of my hutch to keep the frost out.

Mine will eventually live outside, I have the bluebell hutch from pets at home.

Firstly I has perspex covers made to cover the wire, the company drilled holes in to allow for ventillation. They are attached with velcro for easy removal. I used the company in the link below. If you email them they will put any size ‘screw’ hole wherever you want on the sheets.

Insulation, I bought insulating board from b&q, I cut to size and glued this to the back, sides, under the lower floor and above the roof. I used mastic to glue it and then a few nails tacked in at the corners.

I then made a cover out of foil bubble wrap which is taped together, string goes across the front to stop the sides flapping about.

I also have three snuggle safes, one for each hide, they’re cheapest on amazon, £13 with free delivery.

I then bought this from amazon, so I can continually monitor the temperature and humidity in the hutch. The blue at the bottom is the hutch temperarure, the green is the temperature inside my house, the 14 degrees was achieved with my insulation and three snuggle safes, if was around 7degrees outside.

If it is going to be very cold I close off the downstairs and they just spend time in the upstairs as it is warmer upstairs and easier to keep warm with the snuggle safes.
