I hope this is in the right place. If not, please feel free to move it, mods. :rose

Ginger and Cocoa have a plain wood "chew" in their cage. It has a token nibble bite on it, but has evidently been pretty much ignored for over two weeks.

I'm wondering if their teeth will wear down enough by eating their Timothy hay, veggies, pellets, etc.

Nothing to worry about, some pigs just don't use them. :) They should be fine if they are getting a healthy diet. If their teeth need the help of the wood chew, the pigs will use it. :)

Hay is the main thing which will keep teeth nice and trim :)

My lot very rarely nibble the wood in their cage either (although seem to love chewing up cardboard! rolleyes )

As long as they have lots of hay their teeth should be okay ;)

Thank you so much, Fudge and Rainbow :) and Little Piggles! :rose My guys have a full hay rack at all times. It's good to know that their teeth are getting the workout that they need.

I did give them a toilet paper cardboard (split down one side so they couldn't get their head stuck in it). They made a few bite marks and then left it alone. I will give them more cardboard to play with.

Our pigs have ignored every Wooden Chew ever placed in their run or cage! Last year my wife's brother bought them a cool wooden ball which they looked at briefly then promptly ignored for ever...

As stated Hay is the best for wearing teeth down. Our pigs do chew 'Chubes'
they can be bought a Pets @ Home or various places online http://www.thepetexpress.co.uk/?p=2_4&pid=2885 They like to run through them as well as chew on the hard cardboard.

Thank you all for your replies! I feel much better knowing that their teeth will be worn down by the bushels of hay that they consume!

sport_billy, I had never seen a Chube. I just looked them up on a *.S. pet store's website. They look like a brilliant toy that my piggies will love. I will get one for them.

Bailey, those willow balls look fabulous. My boys need one of those, too!

I need to go to the pet store this weekend to buy treats for my piggies. :)

Course you do....pigs have christmas too!! :))

Mine took a while to start using the wooden chews, but they do now - when I clean them out I always find one hidden in Marmites bed, she also likes to pick one up in her mouth and throw it across the cage! :))

They also love to nibble the chube and their wooden house rolleyes

when I first got my guineas last year they didn't chew much at all (over than hay, or kitchen tubes)

Now we have a new guinea as 1 passed awat they chew everything! It is like Sugar (the new recruit) has bought out the nibbles in Candy! A football chew that they never touched nearly down to the wire:)) the wooden sticks and willow balls! Their chubes are starting to look a bit worn now too lol!

I love buying presents for them teehee

Another thing that our Piggies love are Hay Tubes they are hard wooden tubes covered with Hay. They can also be found a Pet@Home or online http://www.petsathome.com/shop/woodlands-small-pet-hay-tunnel-15935

Our Pigs go mad for these and spend an hour pulling hay off and knawing the wood, I'm off to buy a few for Christmas now... probably won't fit in their little stockings though!

You might want to try a few different brands. Mine won't chew any kind of processed wood (ie. anything coloured) but will chew on natural, unprocessed wood chews- we usually buy apple tree trigs with the bark still on and they will chew the bark off. Hay will do more to wear their teeth than anything else, but you can always try some other kinds of chews to see if you can find one that they like!

I'll continue to leave the chew in their cage. Maybe some day they'll get the urge to chew on it. I also plan on getting them a Chube. That looks like a really great toy/hideaway. I suspect that they will really like the fluffy bedding.
