Hi all
Does anyone have piggies in their bedroom? Do they tend to be noisy during the night? Any tips or advice much appreciated. I am moving into a rented room so piggy location will be with me in bedroom.

Thanks
:)

They become active when the light is off and you can hear them drink from their water bottle. I only get woken when my neutered boar decides to make the girls squeel!

I have mine in my room. I haven't found them too noisy, they do get a little active when the light is first turned off but they soon settle down. I find it quite sweet hearing them padding about their cage :)

I have 2 in my bedroom a spayed sow and her un-neutered husboar. As soon as the light goes off the squeaking and rumbling starts, the little sods. I have got used to it now though, and it is just these two, when Tim lived with a boar he was much quieter. We had Mrs Fuzzy in the bedroom for a while too in her own cage and she woke us up one night with a fart, we were very relieved when she joined the herd in the living room. Must say though there is something very relaxing about hearing piggies munch hay all night. .

Yes I have to admit I like the sound of hay munching! Strange isn't it? Lol. Thank you for your replies.

I don't have mine in my room, they are next to me though with a wall between us. The walls are very thin though and I can hear Ryou playing with his jingly ball, them drinking and if they are rumbling or squeaking.

When I had them in my room I could hear their munching and for the first few days I had a gigglefit over it. I found it hilarious. Don't ask me why. xD;; And then one of them (pretty sure Ludwig, my avatar) used to pick his metal bowl up and clang it against the bars for fun. I quickly stopped that by buying a heavier bowl. (mean mummy!) but they were never really very noisy and I could sleep with them there. :)

Yes , they can be noisy- is the honest answer, however it can be dealt with. I have had the pigs in for 2 years over winter in my bedroom (they take up more room than me), last year I had my quad of girls, this year I have my trio (2 girls and a neutered boar). The trio aren't too bad at night apart from when the girls are in season, and then they can be quite noisy.
I use ear plugs, but I do get used to it after several weeks and don't use them all the time. I like to give mine their second plate of veg around about 10PM and they have a big pile of hay as I go to bed. This keeps them quiet whilst I get off to sleep and they just munch away.

The most annoying thing is the water bottle... that's just one sound I never got use to, and ended up moving them back downstairs! :(

I'm lucky - my boys rarely go near their bottle, although it does have the adverse affect of whenever they do go near it I panic worrying they're ill or something! :/

Oh dear! Thats probably even worse. You probably end up getting up in the middle of the night making sure their not ill!

I have 2 boars in a 5ft x 5ft enclosure in my bedroom and I love it. It's comforting to hear them munching on hay. Once the light goes off, they don't make any squeaking so they are good during the night.

Mine are always quiet at night apart from hay munching like others have mentioned, a few times I've been woken up but that was when they were squabbling a bit :P

I didnt know pigs farted?

Mine are in my room, and there's no probs really. I actually can't sleep nowadays when they aren't in my room! But they are good at waking you up if they want to, because now I'm not allowed lie-ins at the wheekend, seeing as they think that 8:30 is the absoulute latest they will get their nuggets.

If you are a light sleeper like me I would advise against it. At Christmas and New Year I bring my four into my bedroom whilst their room has a visitor. I would describe the my guinea pigs drinking style as attack on the bottle. Then it goes quiet and I hear shuffling which makes me think someone has escaped and I have to turn the light on to check. By the end of the visitors stay I can say I suffer from sleep deprivation and love it when the guinea pigs go back to their own room.

My pigs' cage is in my room. I don't mind it at all. In fact, it encourages me to clean their cage more often because nobody wants to live in a smelly room. I also like it because it allows me to spend a lot more time with them. They don't tend to make too much noise during the night, and even when they do, you get so used to it that it's not hard to ignore.

I have two piggy cages next to my bed, never had any problems. But then again i love hearing them. :)

I do hear them- but its not noisy, its just then eating or drinking. I find it useful as if they are poorly with a bad chest - that usually first flares up at bed time with one of my girls, so i like knowing she is next to me if her chest starts- then i can act and get meds into her at the first sign of illness. I also have 2 piggies on multiple medications, so nice to know i can do meds last thing at night, put then down- wash hands and go to sleep :P

I think it probably depends on your pigs, when my sister pig sits for me she always complains about how noisy they are compared to her pigs. I have my girls in my room and there have been several occasions where I have been unable to sleep because Rio has been in season and been squeaking and rumbling and humping everything in sight. It was so bad once I tried separating her so I could get some sleep and she just chewed on the bars separating them until I gave in and put them back together. :mal:
I'm in a similar situation where my room is the only place they can stay. While I'd probably prefer having them somewhere else in the house you do eventually get used to the nibbling of hay and munching of veg and luckily they are only occasionally in season. I do get to see a lot more of them now they're in my room which I love.
