Hi all,

I'll be away and I have to take my guinea pigs to my relatives who owns these two aforementioned birds for around 3 weeks. She doesn't mind taking care of my piggies but they will be in the same room with these two birds. They have a cage, however, she keeps it open so the birds will be free to fly in and out of their cage.

I know there are some cross contamination risk by putting them in the same room, however, I would like to keep it as minimum as I could so I'm gonna put maybe some cardboards on top of my piggies' C&C cage so that the birds' poops and seeds won't come into my piggies' cage.

Anyone knows what kind of things I should avoid for the cross contamination besides their poops and seeds?

Thanks in advance!

Most contamination happens via droppings, feathers and direct contact so as long as the guinea pig cage is protected, the infection risk should be minimised. I would recommend that your relatives clean and feed your piggies before the birds, and especially before or after the birds are let out and wash their hands well before and after dealing with your guinea pigs, as part of normal common sense inter-species hygiene.

The noise and the birds exploring the cage bars may take a bit od time for your piggies to get used to.
