Piggies Observations

I've been wondering lately if piggies know what the look like and if they can see another piggy looks like them?

Anybody else ever wondered ? Or do I have too much thinking time? X

I wondered this... I put Beans in front of the mirror and she had a good look then seemed to realise it was her...

Mine have looked in a mirror and run away. I have a few piggies that look alike I wondered if they know they look alike :-) x

Yea my pigs aren't fond of the mirror, my cat absolutely adores herself and likes to sleep facing the floor length mirror we keep in the hallway

I think they must recognise each other in some way
I think its a sent thing though rather than actually seeing each other
Now i've read that post back it doesn't make any sence...

I believe Guinea pigs don't recognise themselves through mirrors not many animals do

I agree that it is probably mostly a scent recognition, but piggies def recognize each other. I think only select animals recognize themselves in mirrors but I have seen a few. Also I do not think that they would know if they looked similar. Guinea Pig Phylosophy 101 HAHAHA

I only wonder as I have a few that look alike and at a quick glance I can't always tell who's who. I just wondered if they say a piggy and thought they look like me, but I suppose they don't know what they look like :-) x

I think it's been proven that only humans, dolphins and apes can recognise themselves in a mirror.
Otherwise I guess it's scent, I mean their eyesight is pretty poor anyway so....
But I have wondered if they're like hey you look like the last buddy! or hey, you look like my cousin #toomuchtime
(Especially as Tylers last cage mate had a black face and now so does the new one lol)
