Dental Piggies teeth. .problems

Sorry to hear your piggie is having teeth problems.
It is essential to have them seen by an experienced piggy vet (not always easy to find - try the Vet Locator in the green bar at the top of the page).

Also some piggies require several follow up appointments after an initial treatment.
You are right about the diet too - hay is essential for good dental health, and if a guinea pig gets too many veggies they may not eat enough hay to keep their teeth suitably worn down.

So for now I would have your piggies teeth rechecked by an experienced vet, and offer lots and lots of different types of hay to encourage him to eat more.

Not sure exactly what you mean by his teeth are crunching. Is he grinding his teeth in pain? Is he having difficulty eating? Is he due for a re-check at the vets?
 
It may help to weight him daily and make a note of his weight while you are concerned about him or changing his diet. Hope you find out what the problem is x

Sounds good. I've cut back on veggies.. He's eating from his 3 pellet trays. Taking ages to eat but he's managing. Still crunching noises. Will see a vet soon I think. A proper vet thank you.

I know they things. His poos soft so more hay and pellets now for few days. He eats OK but slow. Never stops eating. What a grinding noise

Don't know if it's pain. Just a noise. Looks like back teeth he got done. He was OK when he came back. It was a week later the noise. He moves his Jaws about eating pellets. I fed him too many greens. My fault.
 
Don’t blame yourself, there are lots of piggies with dental issues that have a perfect diet. Some piggies will sit and eat hay all day, and some need a bit more encouragement. Offer unlimited fresh hay and clean grass if you can get some.
 
Hay I've got looks like dried grass. He eats too much grass in the garden. But weather changes so I try to keep him indoors eating or in the big sun house he has where he's safe too. 😊☀️

I syringed food to him and he loves it but then he went to eat pellets all dayv😊
 
Grass and hay is what wears the teeth down but the teeth are continuously growing and can grow very quick so it's likely that they have overgrown again. It is common for piggies to have multiple dentals before they are sorted which is why we strongly recommend the cat and rabbit clinic in Northampton as I believe Simon is the only vet to do conscious dentals. If you can get to him he is well worth the visit. @furryfriends (TEAS)
 
I run a sanctuary for guinea pigs with dental issues and the only reason this exists, is because of the knowledge and skill of our vet, Simon Maddock of the Cat and Rabbit Clinic, in Northampton. I know you are a very long way away, but Simon gets excellent results and has saved the lives of so many guinea pigs with severe dental disease.

He's not eating. Lost weight. Knackered he is. Wet cold paws. Round eyes are funny. Sits there awwwww. Vet soon. Maybe antibiotics

Thanks for asking. My friend. 😊. They grinded his back teeth down. Now he's home. Worse I think like last time.
They said bring him back tommorow morning.a specialist will see him as there's a tooth at the back they cannot get too. It's causing his front teeth not too meet. They might have to remove it. 😭😡😡. They charge £45 for ga.. Day before was £39 for metacam and seeing vet.. Last visit was £85.GRINDING OF TEETH WITCH DIDN'T WORK.. BEFORE THAT WAS UMPTEEN MEDICATION. 😡😠😵🤪😳
