Hi, I've got 2 boars who live separately in cages right next to each other as they fight. Their cages are so close that they can touch noses through the bars, so they have company of sorts. They both have separate floor time every day and I leave the cage open during floor time so they can jump in and out as they please. What usually happens though is they'll spend a little bit of time running around the floor, but after around 10 minutes they'll jump back into their cages. When they're having floor time I put fleece down on my wooden floor, and put a couple of hideys or tunnels out so they have somewhere to snuggle in. I also usually put some veggies out for them and a couple of toys. But once the veggies are eaten they'll nearly always jump straight back in the cage. I expected that once they were out on the floor they would run around and enjoy the space, and not want to go back into their cages. Does this mean they're not enjoying their floor time? I would happily have them running around out of their cages all evening but they don't seem keen. Are they just homely piggies?!

Hello!

It sounds pretty normal to me so don't worry! When I first got my two girls they would do the exact same. How long have you had them and how old are they?

It could be that they just feel safer in their cage and more comfortable there.

In the end I would close the cage so they couldn't jump back in and that encouraged them to move around more.

As long as they don't dart for it as soon as you put them out I wouldn't worry too much. They know their cage is where the yummy hay and best snooze spots are located ;) haha x

Thanks for the advice. I've had my boys for about 10 months and they are around 14 months old. I'll try shutting the cage to encourage them to stay out a bit longer! x
