My piggles are now just over 9 months old and they seem to have stopped putting on weight for a while now. I am not concerned as they are well, happy and never stop eatting, however I notice they seem to be much lighter than a lot of pigs on here. They 3 of them weigh between 850-950grams the last time I checked, just over a week ago. I want to check again now but none of them fancy a run in their run today!

Are yours piggies sows? My two girls will be 10 months on January 26, so about the same age as your pigs. I have one who hasn't gained since Dec. 17th but the other girl gained another 2 ounces. I am sorry but the last few times I only recorded their weight in pounds. One is 2 lbs. 11 1/4 ounces and the other girl is 2 lbs. 9 1/4 ounces. They were both about 1340 grams at just over 7 months. I guess guinea pigs are like people. They come in all shapes and sizes. My girls gained quite fast and probably too much in the summer when they were getting lots and lots of grass. Now that winter is here I have cut back on the amount of greens. They eat mostly hay and have slimmed out a little.

Yep they are 3 sows.

I eventually managed to weigh them last night and actually wrote it down instead of just leaving it in my head. They are finally getting closer to the 1kg mark!

Pebbles - 958grams
Misty - 886 grams
Smudge - 977 grams

Smudge is the only one who has ever felt "solid". When she streches out, she still looks nice and fat, whereas when Pebbles and Misty strech, they do appear a bit on the skinny side.

I am not sure just how much is to do with their early life as they did come from P@H, went to a family who got bored of them after a week, they ended up being there for a few weeks and I took them from there. I remember when I weighed them they were between 400 - 500 grams.

Their age is an estimated though. I asked in P@H a little while after I got the piggles and they said they sell them between 8 and 12 weeks. Really not sure how true that is... But I gave them my cats Shadow birthday as it seemed around that time they were born from what I was told.

The get so much hay that it is always overflowing! 2 small bowls of Wagg Musuli (its around 70grams) and a big bowl of veggies each day (anywhere between 300 - 500 grams) And all of them eat really well.

I love them to bits whatever their size! I will start actually writing their weights down though each time I weigh them. Just easier to remember as I was struggling to know the exact figures from last week! Normally comes to me straight away!

Sounds like you are doing all you can do and the rest is up to the girls. I got my girls at 5 weeks old right from a really good breeder, so they came to me plump. I probably over fed them when they were young, my son and husband said they were getting too fat. I started to run into problems when I went from grass to store bought greens. I was used to feeding them at least 7 ounces or more of grass and a few garden greens daily for two piggies and continued on with that amount even when winter set in. One of my girls started to get a dirty bum and their poop was pretty stinky. I have cut them back to 3 ounces per day for the two of them, divided into morning and night feedings. Things are better but they are not as chubby as they were in the summer. You didn't have any control over their early life and who knows what they were fed. Sounds like they are happy and healthy and you really love them so that is all that matters.

Their weights are in normal range for sows and their age, so don't worry! The range for sows is anywhere from 800g-1200g normally (outside of that range is also possible and can be totally healthy too!). My sows range from about 800g (3/4year old, very dainty lady) to over 1300g (one fat one and one that's just a larger girl!). Most of my sows weigh 1-1.1kg.

At 9 months old your piggies are still in their growing months; though it will be a lot slower from now until about 14 months old (ish). I think Pebbles and Smudge will end up over a kilo and Misty will end up over 900g and those are perfect weights for them!

Also, I do find that the younger sows do keep that lean look about them, it's not until they're fully grown that they tend to fill out a bit more and look chubby - all the girls I have that are under a year old are still slim and streamlined pigs, the adults are the tubbsters!
