I've come down with a cold and when I went to say hello to Ophelia and Bianca I said, "Hello piggies!" Except I croaked it because, try as I did, my voice had stopped working. They often respond to my voice but now they didn't, so this time it took food to get them out. I don't know if I should be happy that they usually respond because they hear me, because surely they could also recognise me by smell?

Hope you are feeling better soon. Maybe they were just being lazy today not wanting to get out of their beds quickly.

I think to them sound is more significant than smell. Smells can linger and drift but sound is always in the now and should be paid attention to, especially if it is a large croaking monster.
I would take it as a compliment. My piggies sometimes get excited when hearing an older croaky voice on the radio! And I think "really? Is that what I sound like?" They have even been known to mistake a creaking door for my voice 🤣

I practised my voice this afternoon and thought, "Oh that's ok now." Then I coughed and lost it again but this time they came out excitedly. There was a poo floating in their water bowl so I changed it, and while I filtered the water, Ophelia tried twice to drink from the empty bowl. When there was finally water in she drank as if she had never drunk before.
