Last time Mad Lady Piggle was in season she had a UTI and was a bit subdued... today she's back in season and is a crazy hormonal nightmare! She's bouncing off the furniture attacking everpig and everything. At dinner time she launched herself off a hidey house roof, landed in her food bowl, peed in it, then ran round trying to steal everyone's food and lunging at them. She cornered Blodwen in a hidey tube and snarled and lunged at her (Blod is clever and slim and sneaked out the back though) then lunged at poor old Jezzy floof (Jezzy stood on her hind legs and she's a lot taller than Piggle, but I did chin-up shove Piggle away because Jezzy doesnt like rough play) then she started a full on fight with her cousin Lady Puggle and they rolled around the cage like a pair of tom cats! Puggle won (she's small but feisty snd doesnt take any crap) and Piggle is missing a small patch of fur and it was over in a couple of minutes, then Puggle complained to Theo and got to sit in his favorite hay tray at the opposite end of the cage, and he had to do his peace making husboar thing and go deal with his mental other wife...
They are normally such a peaceful herd, until once every couple of months Piggle's hormones go absolutely haywire and she starts a riot... I guess apart from understanding its hormones and will pass in a couple of days there's not much I can do? Piggle is notorious for strong seasons ever since her first obvious one at 16 weeks old but today was a bit extreme, no blood drawn but I'm quite surprised there wasn't as Piggle and Puggle had a right wrestling match!
I guess its sod's law, only a few days ago I was thinking how lucky we are to have such a nice herd dynamic going on...

My Cookie is notorious as well when in season. She would chase Sierra and Prince nonstop to the point that Prince would just hide upstairs of their hutch most of the time. She would also lose some weight because she'd rather chase the others than eat, unless of course during break time. :xd: Plus the mess she makes! :hb:

Yes I came home from work and noticed a real funky pee smell even though they were only cleaned out 2 days ago... at first I thought the new hemp bedding I'm trying out must be a bit rubbish then I saw Mad Lady Piggle leaping on the hidey house rooves spraying pee everywhere! She's a real monster, if she was any species other than a small cute herbivore rodent I'd need tranquiliser darts and a muzzle for her when she's having a strong season...

Betsy was a complete nightmare when she was in season. Though not nearly as bad as Piggle. I have a video that is too x rated to put on a family friendly forum of her when in season. Her personality would completely change and she was a right cow. Since she has got older (she is 3 somewhen at beginning of Feb) she has calmed down and is now just a bit grumpy so there is hope for Piggle yet. :)

Hahahha..oh and they are so noisy as well right? Flipping nonstop wheeking or whatever you call that moaning noise they make. It's a good thing my piggies run freely in the living room so the others can get away from monster Cookie, but the mess!

Piggle is making a noise somewhere between a snarling lion and a chicken being strangled. Everyone else is clucky-chuckle-complaining anxiously. Jezzy floof is wheeking like she'd like me to send a lifeboat full of hay. Glad I added the cage extension at Christmas, 26 square feet is almost enough space for the others to avoid Piggle completely!

I think Blodwen is making Piggle a bit angry because she won't be dominated and has better herd ranking then Piggle by being so nice... if somebody chin-ups Blod or lunges at her she just licks them on the face and gives them a big sloppy kiss then stands her ground, she can take food right out of boss pig Clover's mouth by acting so adorable! Blod is like the unicorn-sparkle-fairy-sunshine pig and Piggle doesnt know what to do except chase her, then Blod pretends to run away and sneaks up behind her and licks her ears...

I love the way you tell the stories.
Jemimah was a real pain when she had a strong season but has been incredibly calm and chilled since her spay.
Priscilla on the other hand has decided that she wants to hump Jemimah non- stop when she has a strong season.
Hope Piggle calms down

From past experience, by this time tomorrow Piggle will be looking and acting like she has a bad hangover (all dull eyes and rough fur and sleeping it off avoiding everyone) and can't remember what she's done, then the day after she will be slinking around as lowest ranking herd member licking ears and trying to make friends, then we'll have a fairly normal 10 days... then it all might happen again!

Sows can suffer from mad seasons. It gets REALLY crazy when the pheromones set off other sows in the room that are close enough in their estrus cycle, believe me!
You may find this guide here comforting: When Sows Experience A Strong Season (videos)

Yes boss pig Clover was in season a few days ago but she has no interest in our little husboar Theo- she just wanted to hump Piggle and Blodwen! Blod didnt mind (she squealed just submissively enough to be adorable, then Clover shared dinner with her, Blod is very clever at herd politics) but Piggle thinks she's too high ranking to be humped by the boss lady and took offence. So Piggle is trying to dominate everyone, Clover is sort of nose-slapping her, Piggle is annoyed that Blod is both Clover and Theo's favorite and the others like her too... such a soap opera!

Who you hump in a group during season depends very much on your ranking - generally it is the sow just ranked below you or just above; it can also be another sow in season. Mating with a boar only happens during the small time slot in which a sow is actually fertile right at the end of the season.

Yes Piggle is strange she lets Theo mate with her much more than the other ladies do but I think he prefers the romantic thrill of chasing Puggle and Blodwen for 3 minutes of passion every 16 days or so than Piggle's "whatever, go on then" approach! Piggle also used to hump Theo, and Clover did, but he's quite a hefty boar now and has 5 ladies and a very sizeable territory so he does the humping rather than getting humped. Sometimes. If the ladies let him. He does a lot more peace maker negotiating between ladies and letting them steal his dinner than humping :)

Fabulous! Who needs EastEnders when you have @PigglePuggle's herd? Just read snippets out to hubbie - he's always keen to know how Blodwen is after her rough start. So lovely to hear she has found her niche!

Blodwen is a little lilac pants superstar, she's always so happy and cheeky with her new herd and is the supreme mistress of piggy herd politics. Also she ate spinach leaves from my hand in the cage for the first time today rather than running away and coercing them from another piggy after I'd gone :)
