Hello all,
I’m currently doing a level 3 animal care course and one of my assignments is about the care of an exotic animal.
I have been allowed to Use a skinny pig as my animal, but I have to talk about them as though they originally came from the wild and how we replicate their natural environment within their cages, and how it links to the Animal Welfare Act.

I have wrote down a few things such as scattering and hiding food for them to forage. Giving them hideouts and tunnels. And being in pairs/groups and the correct cage sizes. I was wondering what else people have done to keep their fur babies happy or know any other things that could be done.

I apologise If this isn’t allowed but I thought I might as well try.
much love ☺️

Good luck with your assignment it sounds tricky especially as skinny pigs never did come from the wild so maybe make the natural habitat etc a bit more generic for guinea pigs in general.

Other members with skinny pigs include @Flutterby and @HeatherRose

Thankyou :) ive based most of the assignment to guinea pigs from their natural habitat which they have said I can do, I just have to do the recreating it at home part about skinny pigs because normal guinea pigs are not classed as “exotic”. I’ve also added that they need heat mats and things to keep them warm but I cant think of anything else haha. It is quite a difficult assignment but hopefully it will all be right ☺️

Perhaps it would be interesting to add in about how Skinny Pigs in particular were originally bred in labs for testing and have now become and 'exotic' pet?
Thankyou I will add that in ☺️

Skinny pigs eat and drink more than furry pigs (and also poop way more!). Keeping the temperature controlled and consistent is important.

I sent my assignment in so let’s hope it was good enough haha.. Thankyou for you’re help guysss ☺️
I hope you’re all doing good.
here’s my two fattys enjoying their tea (they are currently on a diet which they are not happy about)

I have a question, is there two types of skinny pig breed? One with the wirey face hair, and one without?

You will let us know won’t you?
Gorgeous piggies

I’ve still not heard anything about the assignment that I did over a month ago, but I will still let you know how it went when I finally hear something back.

Hello again..
recently I got an email from my college saying we no longer to do any assignments as they are going to base us on our predicted grades, which unfortunately means I won’t be getting feedback on my skinny/guinea pig assignment ☹ but thankyou all for your help!
Much love! ❤️

How very frustrating after putting in all that research and hard work.

It must be so annoying for you after all your hard work. Hopefully you will find your research useful in the future, you never know when these things will come in handy!
