Hi everyone,

I’m new with guinea pigs but absolutely fell IN LOVE with them already. :smitten:lol [size=16pt]

I got my Bo Bo about 3 weeks ago and he’s no baby because he’s already one!

Does that mean that it’s going to be REALLY hard finding that “right†friend for him? I know that male guinea pigs don’t interact well with each other if they didn’t grow up together in the same cage? I found that out after I bought him… :-\

Plus, he doesn’t squeak to get my attention for food. Does that mean that he’s never going to squeak to me? I want a guinea pig that wants my attention and follow me around like most other piggies. On the other hand, I know that it takes time for them to get comfortable with me.
Please respond and tell me what you think. Thanks!

Congrat on your piggy :)

My pigs only squeek when they hear a bag rustle... but it took them a while to do that :)

My boar is also 1yr old... I got him a 6 week? old friend and they were doing okay together... the only problem I found was at the moment the baby boar is 'growing up' and is humpingmy 1yr old alot :o so this is a problem...

You will be able to get him a friend :) You just need to bond them right :)
Heres a link that should help you :)

Good Luck :)

did you mean 'hes no baby cos hes already had one?

My piggies dont follow me around....they will follow a piece of kale...and if hear me preparing food they will squeek but i dont think generally piggies 'follow you around' it takes a long time for them to even calm down!

Welcome Angie :)

As BW said go onto Barmy 4 Boars site gives you heaps of info on how to bond piggies O0
Don't worry some piggies are quieter than other, and others are just absolute chatterboxes :-*

Good luck, keep asking questions i'm sure there will be someone to answer most times of the day :)

I hope we get to see piccies of your little BoBo real soon :smitten:

Hi, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your piggy, looking forward to seeing pictures soon!

Welcome to the forum. You have two options with getting your guinea pig a friend. You could get him neutered and pair him up with one, two or more females, or bond him with one or two baby boars. O0

First of all, thank you everyone! You guys are so friendly and helpful! PLUS very welcoming. Hehe :)

My bad Smileer, I meant that he’s already one year old! Lol
Hey Baby-Wilson! Oh my gosh! I haven’t told you guys that I did get a male G-pig for my Bo a week later after I bought him. The other piggy was about 7 months old. Ok, so I put them together in the cage and my Bo was SOOOOOOOO delighted and then he started purring and wanted to mate with the other piggy.
Since Bo is my first guinea pig and I had NO clue that male piggies humps each other due to raging hormones! So I was like what’s going on. So I picked up the new piggy and checked its sex. It turned out to be a Sow! Can you believe that? So I went back to the store and told them that he sold me a female instead of a male. The manager was still like “I’m sure he’s a male.†Well, I told her to double check it, and she did and she is INDEED a female! My Bo could have got her pregnant! :o
Once again, thanks for everyone’s opinion. =)

Well done for checking the sex. Just to make you aware though males and females hump both same sex and opposite sex guinea pigs for dominancy. To be honest it was a good thing you got a sow as if you had got a boar of seven months and put it straight into Bo's hutch you can pretty much guarantee there would have been a fight. If you introduce two males together you should introduce a baby boar to an adult boar, not saying you can’t introduce two adult boars together, however, it is MUCH harder to bond them. :)
