In the last 2 months my boys have been to the vets and to piggy boarding in the same battered box that I brought them home in the first time. They are booked back into boarding in September and I would like to take them in sometime a little more substantial.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to a suitable carrier (design/size etc) for 2 piggies?

thanks for that link. I would like something to carry both of them on the basis of safety in numbers. Barney isn't too bad but Toby gets really stressed out of Barney isn't around.

that's great - thank you all - brilliant range of carrier to choose from to ensure my piggies are carried in style in future!

You can get a large plastic packing crate from tescos for less than a fiver. Put some newspaper in the bottom and a fleece blanket over that, then a flexi-log shelter or similar from their cage. I use it to transport my girls from work and back and they seem perfectly comfortable, especially if there's some veg in there.

If you use a crate or a laundry basket, you have to make sure they can't jump out. I have heard that pigs can jump up to 60 cm, although those pigs are rare. I have seen one do it on YouTube! I have seen jumps over 40 cm myself though.

I usually go for cat sized carriers if I need to carry more then one pig at the time. I prefer the ones which have a dor at a side and one at the top. The top door is safer at the vet to use, so they won't bolt off.

I also use a carrier in the cage every now and then, so they can get used to it. They can sleep and play in it. That way, it's not a negative object which takes them to the vet.

I've got one of these ...

Its an ideal size for one piggy to make short journeys in, but don't think it would be great for two. Maybe something like a small cat carrier would be better if you want them to travel together.

There's always some bargains on eBay, thats where I bought mine.

Sorry, but that's way too small in my opinion, even for a short journey. I have one and it's really only suitable for rats and smaller. :)

I have a standard sized cat carrier which is perfect. :)

I use a cat carrier too, we have loads of them so all can leave the flat in an emergency.

I forgot to add that when you take the pigs in the car for a ride, buckle the carrier up.

I agree, I have that carrier for syrian hamsters in the largest size and use a cat carrier for my rats :-)

I have seen those ones in pets at home and did think that they couldn't really expect those to be used for GPs - would be like sticking it in a coffin!

It is perfectly fine for short journeys. Mine is only for vet visits (my vet is 1 mile from my home) with one pig. They can move about in it, and just settle down to eat once in there. Bearing in mind how close my vets are, they are only ever in there for a very short time. If ever they went on a longer journey they would be in a larger carrier.

We have this one, its very sturdy http://www.petsathome.com/shop/small-animal-carrier-large-by-savic-36493 and can fit 2 piggies comfortably

I got one of these from freecycle last year & it's been a godsend with all the trips to the vets since last October. We also use it for taking Minnie & Mitch onto the run on the front lawn. We also have a much larger conventional cat carrier with the mesh door at one end & use it for carrying the other 3 girls to the front lawn. It's also handy for putting my cuppa on while I'm sat watch them all.

I forgot to add that when you take the pigs in the car for a ride, buckle the carrier up.

We put ours in the floor area behind the front seats so it can't move about while being transported.

IMPORTANT: I forgot to mention in my 2 previous additions to this thread. If you're taking piggies out in a carrier in this present hot weather, please have someone with you who can sit with them with the lid open. It doesn't take long for them to overheat. Try & give them some airflow from an open window.
