My friend has always cut Lemmy and Atoms claws for me, but as of late shes had a baby and moved house (which is great but now i have no claw cutter :)) )

I'm really confident cutting rabbits claws, but the guinea pigs are wrigllers and smaller:(, and I'm petrified of hurting them :(

any pointers as to how to do this?
or if anyone near the stoke on trent area want to teach me how?

Do you have a set of good clippers? Make an appointment with your vet nurse and get them to show you how to do it :)

It always helps to see an experienced person do them first. We do a 2 person job, I hold and Rach clips. I also use food to bribe them into being still - little wrigglers.
I'm sure the vet or Potteries GP Rescue will be more than willing to show you how.

Reading posts like this makes me so proud of my piggies - they just sit there with their feet out!

It's bath and nail clip day today!

I think id be to scared to do it my self Lemmy isnt all that fond of being handled and likes to scream at me when first handled (i think he just likes to make me look evil) ;)

Years ago my dad used to cut the claws of any guinea pigs and rabbits we had years ago, that was until he cut the quick on Peanut (one of the piggies we had years ago), the sight of the blood and how distressed Peanut was made me decide to only trust myself to do it.

I use humans nail clippers and apart from a bit of wriggling I do them okay.I did our girls Bonnie and Lotties for the 1st time the weekend. My daughter holds them on her lap and I just take my time. The trouble is Bonnies back feet are black so I cant see the quick so I just take the tips off.

Both boys took a trip to Aunty Helen and Aunty Claire at the rescue where they where well looed afterx)x)x)

Yes, it is definatley a 2 person job. And I'm the same, I have to have my OH hold the piggy whilst I cut their claws. I could not do it by myself because of how they wriggle and can be very unpredictable in their movements.

I got my claw clippers from P@H as they seem to be very good.

Get someone professional, or someone whos been doing it for a while to show you. I had an excellent teacher from a Guinea pig sanctury near here show me. Just make sure you never cut near the pink part of their claw as this will then make them bleed +++++++

I use a Dremel to my piggies nails (down to one piggie now). She is ever so good, I sit her on a towel which stops her slipping about and just hold her nails. It doesn't take long at all. I tried to use the nail cutters but I couldn't get on with them. I also use the Dremel on my dogs nails, easy peasey:)).

it can sometimes help if you wrap then in a towel, once you have done it a few times you will soon be confidant with it, i even cut my ratties claws when they need it, they dont wriggle as much as the piggies thou
