I've just collected my piggy today after dental work yesterday at the Vets and his molars had to be filed back. He is chomping into his grass and eating veggies easily but he has no interest in his dry pellets. Any ideas on how long it might take for him to get back to eating them?

He will tend to eat softer stuff if he is in any pain following dental work, try soaking some in a little water to soften them and see if he will take them that way, you might want to force one in his mouth so he learns they are soft. good luck. x

It's a good sign he's eating veggies and hay.

Pour a little hot water over the pellets, then some cold water and drain the water off, this will soften them for him.... Make sure they are not hot when you put them back in cage.

One of our piggies will only eat pellets this way

Thanks for the responses. I've just gone and softened some of the pellets, came out the kitchen and found him at the dry food bowl. He is nibbling away at the pellets. Will keep an eye on this though and see how he goes.

thanks again

Keep an eye on his dry food and hay consumption, if he doesn't eat these it will be worth syringe feeding pellet mash to give him the fibre he needs and keep his gut moving. Is he on any med's?

No meds because he has been eating hay normally and has eaten his carrots and lettuce fine. I gave him some celery when he got home and it disappeared quickly so I'm quite happy at the moment he is feeding normally. The vet did mention that he hadn't touched the dry pellets and to keep an eye on him. Normally he is at the bowl alot. He has also been chewing away at a hay bale so he mustn't be in too much pain

Please weigh him daily until you are absolutely sure that he is eating fully again. Just watching can be deceptive.
