Hi all, I just joined as I'm hoping someone has some idea what's happening to my piggy :( I have two, and he's about 2 years old. He's been sleeping a lot the last few weeks but eating well, but this week he's been looking really sick. He seems depressed, he's eating but doesn't react to anything like someone approaching, when a week ago he'd have run for the hideyhouse. He looks very disoriented, like his eyes are glazed over and unfocused. Yesterday he started hopping and dragging one of his hind legs, today he's dragging both and kind of stumbling. The other guinea pig is fine... I don't know what to do, I'm really scared and I'd appreciate any advice or experiences, since there's only one vet near me and he doesn't know a lot about "exotic" animals :(

Well if I were you I'd get him to a vet that does treat guinea pigs, as that sounds (though I am no expert) kinda serious. Even if it's a way away, do it for your pig. Or u could just ring them and list the symptoms, then they may tell u what to do. U did the right thing joining the forum!

Hello. I'm so sorry to hear that your piggy is unwell. Please get him seen by a vet as a matter of urgency, it certainly sounds like he is very poorly. Where abouts are you from? Perhaps we could help with sourcing an experienced vet.

Please have your guinea pig seen by a vet asap! Any vet care is better than none. Unfortunately, there is a chance that any help may already come too late.
Ask the vet to scan for arthritis, check its heart and for signs of a stroke or other potential neurolical problems.

Until then, keep your piggy as quiet and comfy, warm but not hot and offer it syringe feed and water, but do not force it down if it is already unable to process any food.

Start with syringe feeding and watering.
