My piggy died today and it really breaks my heart. Pikachu was wonderfull piggy and left me, my Husband and his companion heart broken. We will cope with the loss with time but not sure about Goofy. He eats his food but besides that just stays in the corner. He does not even want to be petted.

I was wondering if getting another piggy would help and was thinking about taking younger one so it will not be difficukt for them to decide about who's the boss. But I am not sure if I should get in as soon as possible or wait for longer. I'm worried about Goofy and I do not want him to get depressed!

Please help!

Hey there. So sorry to hear about your wee boy. :( And welcome to the forum.

Yes, definatly, if you think Goofy is lonely, get a baby boar as a companion.

Also, instead of buying please consider adoption from a rescue. If you hit the rescue centre section of this forum, there are lots of baby boars looking for homes, and most rescues will be happy to help you with introducing them.

The key with introducing piggies is neutral territory, (ie, not the cage!) and when you do house them together in the same cage for the first time, make sure it is all clean and rearranged. :)

Good luck with your search, but I definatly think you are making the right decision. How old is Goofy?

Welcome to the forum. Yes I would get another pig sooner rather than later. Sounds as if Goofy could be falling into some depression.

I wouldn't buy one though, there are thousands of pigs in rescue at the mo and you will find one there. You can even take your pig to some rescues for bonding to find a perfect friend.

Where abouts are you? There are rescues up and down the country. :)

I live in watford which is Hertfordshire county. Honestly I am not sure where would be my nearest rescue centre!

Goofy is 1,5 years old.

I dont live far from Watford.
Search your local rspca on the net, I know there is the blue cross centre in Kimpton.

Have a look here, also noticed there were some guineas listed in Herts not sure on areas though. I only know Barnet as I lived there for a short time. :)

Do hope you manage to get something sorted, I've just bonded a 19 month old boar with a 6/8 week old babe and it worked well. Young/older partnerships can work well as older boar won't see babe as a threat.

The Blue cross in Kimpton rarely has guinea pigs but Woodgreen in Godmanchester does, this is their website http://www.woodgreen.org.uk/ and it says on the site that they have baby guinea pigs available. Also do you know of Letchworth? There is a man there who runs his own rescue at his house and he often has loads, I've lost his number now but I think the bluecross gave it to me so if you ask you may be able to get it. Good luck with finding a friend for Goofy x

I have sent an email to this lady in Harpendedn hope she will be able to help me. Thanks Missbonbon!

I also tried to look at some of the links I got and unfortunately nothing at the moment but I will keep on trying!

I am sorry for your loss. Often a piggie will accept a new friend much easier than normal when they are grieving.

Wood Green Animal Shelter in Godmanchester is good; also they have a shelter in Heydon, near Royston, if that is nearer you. I have adopted from both shelters and recommend them fully.

I am sorry for your loss :( Some good ideas here, I hope you find Goofy the perfect friend!

It's great that you are happy to get Goofy a friend, he sounds like he's pining, poor sweetheart. Have you tried posting a message on the Rescue Boards? Some people may see Goofy's story on there who aren't members as the Rescue Boards are accessable to non-members and you may be able to get a piggy rescue train together if the right pig is a bit further than your immediate area :)

Sorry to hear of your loss X I am in Milton Keynes and currently have just the one baby boar (3 weeks old) who will soon be looking for a companion. There are some pictures of him in the 'name the piggie fundraiser' in the rescue centre section. Please PM me if interested in offering the little one a home.

P.s, the Harpenden lady is Ruth Oddie, I can always ask her to keep me posted if she gets any more babies in and let you know?

I would love to take the offer unfortunately I feel that this piggy is too much alike to my beloved Pikachu and I am not sure if my heart would survive.

I also was informed that my friend's friend has some piggies so I might have a look there too.

I went to visit that friend I was sooo shocked!! This GIRL had one piggy little tiny male who I think was not looked after! I mean his cage was like for a canary! I also looked to me that he was never handled by anyone and seems to be so anxious even being in the cage! I just took him with no questions asked! Maybe it was foolish of me but I could not stand the way he was. Took him to the vet for check up but for now he residents at the huge box with loads of holes and comfy bedding. poor little fella. And quess what his name was? The Pig.... so we had renamed him to Tigger! After the quarantine I will slowely introduce him to Goofy and let's hope for the best!
