I'm currently trying out fitch bedding. One of my guinea pigs likes eating paper, boxes and even puppy pads. I always try to stop her nibbling and eating it. Now since I'm trying the fitch bedding, she started eating it! Is it safe? :help:

Will have a look for you...

Whew! Thanks for that @sport_billy! I was worried about that. They currently have shavings in the hutch and fleece in the attached run. But since we adopted the little boy Prince, I have to change the shavings of the bottom floor of the hutch everyday coz he pee and poo a lot and it's always soaked! I'm looking for alternatives and read about fitch bedding here. Cookie was who I was worried because as I said earlier, she likes eating paper. :stu:

Have you tried fleece?

I don't think i'd be happy with them consuming too much of it... that's why fleece or vet bed are great alternatives. If i can find any other threads I'll post them but hopefully you may get some other answers from those using in

They have fleece in the attached run. I have different types of bedding because the piggies prefer sleeping in shavings. They have a 5x2 run downstairs but they would always go in the hutch and sleep on shavings! I don't know why they do. Even the new piggy Prince sleep so comfortably on shavings. I tried letting them sleep in the run a few times and closed the hutch but they would always try to bite the railings nonstop to go in the hutch. That's why I can't get rid of the shavings. I only bought 2kg of fitch just to try and see. If Cookie keeps on eating it, then I'll just stick with shavings unfortunately.

i use fitch in my indoor cages, and they all atttempt to eat this ! ive also used finacard and they eat this,it is a cardboard bedding !both are paper based so it is fine for piggies to eat some !

Why do they always eat stuff we dont want them to eat.. I remember when Pitch consumed half a small plastic bag..... What a bloody worry that was!

I know all about the Plastic Fetish!
When I'm busy cleaning in one piggy area some little piggy
Will always sneak over and try and consume the hat bag or the camera tried for gathering the poo!

Yes, they appear to have some sort of secret mission concerning inedible objects.... I think of it as a 'side quest' in a video game they try to complete during their main quest of eating the worlds supply of vegetables. They get bonus points for worrying their slaves

Our girls years ago went through a phase of doing this lead by the ring leader Cookie.... She was a clever piggy and would lead her friends astray, she escaped from the run once with them all following her in a train apart from one on a quest back to the cage..

Thanks @eileen for confirming this. I don't think Cookie would eat much of it (fingers crossed!). She's running around and eating pellets and hay now.

@sport_billy Cookie once ate threads of the mat under the coffee table! At first I was wondering why the threads was like it's been cut at the edges. Then we saw Cookie doing it and hubby said "you know who the culprit is now". She even tried eating the fleece and towels!

We also have a ratan sofa where the other run is at the other side of the living room. They like hiding under it so we decided years ago to just put newspaper with shavings there so they won't pee and poo on the carpet. When we got Cookie last year I noticed the sides of the legs (it's like a criss cross of ratan around the side legs) ruined and loads of chunk has been eaten/bitten plenty of times. And yup, the culprit is Cookie again! :hb:

Funny that Cookie is the name of both our pesky piggies.

Your Cookie sounds so full of character! :)) I love pesky pigs they are so funny. Sounds like you have a piggy ASBO on your hands there. Can I see a photo?

This was our Cookie, we still miss her, such a funny bright mischievous friendly piggy

Here's the naughty girl! She's around 9mos old and she's such a cuckoo! Her name fits her perfectly! Haha..Prince is just with us less than four weeks and she would always cause a commotion that the eldest piggy Bunny would think it's poor Prince and get nipped! Then Cookie would keep squeeking/whimpering like she's moaning!

Definitely an Asbo piggy. Lol.
Would get on great with my Asbo rabbits, Flossie and Nevis!
They’ve virtually destroyed all of our dining chairs by eating the leather seats and edges!

Blooming IPad autocorrect!
No! I wasn’t using a hat bag but a hay bag! Or using my camera to pick up poo!

She is very cuddle-able but she hates me for it! She would always give me a chase whenever I would pick her up and then whimper whenever I cuddle her and would nip me all the time. One time she was really annoyed and bit me on my chest. It bled and I had a small wound for a couple of days because of that! But she won't complain if I just pet her and give her chin rubs (she LOVES chin rubs) as long as I won't pick her up. But I love picking her up and cuddling her! :D

You won't believe the amount of time I keep saying "Cookie" every damn day! It's like I was scolding a human child and hubby just tell me I'm nuts haha.

Just now that I was typing this, Cookie spooked Prince (he is still a bit cautious whenever Bunny is next to him because she can easily nip him) and the poor boy was squeeling and trying to run away but end up running in the house where Bunny is and he just jumped back to where Cookie is! The poor boy was so scared so I had to pick him up..and that's all because of Cookie! Sometimes she's evil! :gd:
