Hiya, we have 2 new piggies in our family.
we have 2 familes now, actually
biscuit and smidge
and fluffly, george, lil coco and fudge
i will be getting some pictures of the bunch up very soon! probably tomorrow when they have settled in a little bit and aren't as scared. the lil coco has took very well to the fluffly, when fudge just don't want to socialise, george's scared of both of them. its quite funny, we'll see how much they get along before i decided if they can spend the night in the same hutch. will be putting pics up tomoz, got them from pets at home, so fingers crossed there the right sex and have no illness!

they are girls...i cant handle no more lads, they so domiant and are crazy bout mating.

this is patch (lil coco) i havent really decided yet. shes really nice, soft fur and in p@h she gave me a kiss :)
i cant get fudge she keeps moving! :(

Think you'd better hurry up with Geoege's op ;D, you're tempting even more fate if he has 3 girlies ;)

:o tut tut george :o dont worry, george hasnt made a move on any of the other girlies yet. and hes not to impressed cuz they like fluffly better ;D its probably because shes a female and acts like their mum. though georgy has proudly got his dominace back. hopefully in good time, him and smidge might get along, and the family can be a family again. I'm naggin my dad like hell for the op now. they're moving into a bigger and stronger hutch tomorrow, and biscuit is going back it with smidge, there family may be small, but they got along just fine.

Be really careful though, it's too easy for them all to get pregnant at the same time. And it only takes a few seconds of you not watching them :)

OMG up to 18 new babies beng born at the same time :o Doesn't even bear thinking about ::)

As others have said please think carefully about putting un neutered males and females together otherwise you could end up with a LOT of babies not long down the line. Will you have the time and space to care for them all or if they will be needing new homes do you have them lined up? There are so many un wanted piggies out there that it may be harder to find homes for them than you think.

Also I am not comfortable with pet shop pigs being bred - you know nothing about their background and there could be all sorts of genetic problems that could show up in the babies.

Please think very carefully about what you are doing before things get out of hand.

i think the little one is abit young to get pregaunt at the moment. georgy is in with fluffly in a seperate hutch with fluffly to the new kids. tomorrow, when the new hutch is built up, fluffly, fudge and patch are going in, and smidge and biscuit is going into the 2 storey, fluffly and george are in. and george is going into the small breacon.
:) ;) its a bit confusing but i got it sussed ;) :) georgy will be on his own for a little while, but he'll be ok, i hope! (he might lose his head) ;D

I totally agree with Starshine - you know nothing of the pigs' history so to breed them is playing with fire. Females have been known to get pregnant from about 4 weeks, but doing so completely messes them up meaning they don't grow properly and often have stillborn litters. There is a very real risk of losing the sow, too. Is someone going to pay for all the vet bills if something goes wrong? Even if it runs into hundreds?

Every pig I have seen from PAH has been riddled with mites among various other things (including fungal and respiratory infections). They should have been quarantined for 3 weeks, no ifs, ands or buts. I hope that all your pigs do not get ill as a result.

I bread from my girl wige. Her daughter was born on 29th Nov, she died afer she miscarried a twin at less then 2 months old. It was heartbreaking. The vet tried to save her. He operated but she didn't survive, she had miscarried one, but the other was a perfectly formed little fetus. Please dont put them together unless you def want babies and can look after them. That means food and vet bills.

I couldnt agree more

I personally would love to have babies BUT i couldnt cope with all those extra's. I am already panicking that one of mine may be becuase of the accident of my daughter puting the girls in the wrong section so they were with Sammy

Please please be very careful, do you have space for all those babies have you thought about the expense if they all litter at the same time where are you going to put them

Sorry i dont mean to preach but .....

I'm not saying anything more

Natalie - Are you deliberately trying to breed?

the woman from pets at home told us they were to young to get pregaunt. but i took your advice and put george in the bottom floor and took away the ladder. breeding really isnt on my mind at the moment. i really dont want to go over the number of piggies i have at the moment. so I'm tryin not 2 breed lol! ;D

That's good to know for the moment. People at pets at home don't really know much, they are only after a sale, piggies can get pregnant from the age of 6 weeks. It's not ideal at that age, but it does and can happen.

Plenty of people are always here to advise you :)

If they were old enough to be sold they are old enough to breed. Guinea pigs are sexually mature at 4 weeks of age but that doesnt meen they should be bred at that age. Please make sure George is kept away from all girls until at least a couple of weeks after he has had his op. To leave him un-neutered with any female at this stage would be irresponsible as you have no background on those pigs and could end up with lots of problems. It only takes a second for him to mount one and get her pregnant ::)

That might sound like a silly question, but have you covered up the hole? I mean if you took the ladder away, it means he cant get up to the first floor - but it also means that the girls can just drop down a floor and injure themselves.

No it's not a silly question, it was the very first thought that popped into my head too :)

ok everyone, i got a bit updated today, everything's sorted out now.

Me and my dad just built up the new hutch it looks amazing its so wide! And fluffly, pacth and fudge love it. i can fit in the pigloo without making the hutch look smaller. ill send some pictures in soon.
Smidge (neutured male & dominant) and biscuit (oldest female) in the 2 storey hutch, its small, but hopefully, we'll be moving them into a new hutch when i get abit more money, or if him and georgy start 2 get along they can move in with them.
Georgy poor thing, is in the 3ft foot hutch on his own, until hes neutred, he gave me a sad look when i said goodnight to him. but hopefully next week, when the vets opens on tuesday he'll be going in too.

cyaaa natalie x :)

Out of curiosity, are you planning on housing the two males together with the females, or one male together with one female?

I've never done it myself but I don't know anyone who has managed to get two males to live peacefully together when there are females in the picture. Even if they are neutered.

yup our Dusty sits there looking all sad and wheeking at me every time I go in :(,I feel so guilty that hes on his own,I tried him with one of the baby boys and he was fine out of the cage even laying next to him,as soon as I out him back in his cage he was annoying the hell out of the lil fella..
I hate them beling alone but hes gonna be neutered soon so that may help

no georgy will live with, fluffly, patch and fudge in one when he is neutured

smidge and biscuit are living in another at the moment, he got neutured a few months back.

Just be sure to remember he needs to still wait a few weeks for any remaining sperm to be gone ;)

I have done it twice before with a lot of success, although you have to be very careful and know their personalities well before picking who to do it with 8)

:) I've done it with 2 boys and and 7 sows before, but knew their personalities and haven't had any boys since that I'd even try together with girls.
