For the last few months I have been converting half the garden in to a piggy food garden and growing all sorts of fresh organic veg for them.

So far we have;
carrots
broccoli
sprouts
beetroot
peas
corn
lettice (not iceburg)
tomato
variety of herbs
peppers

They are loving it. Pick a carrot (for example) top and all from the garden, give it a quick wash and then straight to the piggy hutch / run / cage.

Looking at buying a 6 foot by 8 foot greenhouse now so I can continue to grow things in the off season.

If you have a spare patch of garden I well advise you to give it a go and grow some bits and bobs for your piggies.

Oh wow! I bet they love that! I have to go to the store every 3 days or so to get fresh veggies. My boyfriend Dan said, they eat better than we do! lol ha ha

I'm an idiot sorry i was thought you was furryfriends, i really need my eyes testing again.

I have started to grow some stuff for my piggy and rabbit as well:

Parsley
Basil
Dill
Lettuce
Grass in Trays

The Herbs are growing very slowly though I don't think they like as much rain as we have at the moment, could do with some more sunshine and some dry days, the lettuce is growing okay, the grass is growing really quickly.

Mine get a little bit of garden leftovers: there's a thyme plant outside that's just for ornament, so they get the occassional nibble of that, and in good runner bean years, they get some of that as well. My mum prefers me to give them the weeds, though -- I know they'd turn down a nice, home grown, organic carrot for a mad, serial-killer-looking dandelion any day! drool

the piggy garden sounds great although they cant eat beetroot x

I think you will find they can eat beetroot as long as it's fresh from the garden and not pickled!

Your garden sounds fab FF, I have to say there is something very satisfying about pulling up home grown veggies, washing them off and then feeding them to the piggies.:)

we are growing the following

lettuce (cos, curly leaf, French)
brocoli
cauliflower (we have the flower, they have the leaves- shared with the slugs...:)))
grass (of course)
parsley
celery
carrots (they've not grown well this year, tho)

AND
chives
oregano
mint
other herbs whose names I can never remember...

They can eat fresh beetroot. Mine did, a bit!

I have herbs, but no veg yet; with all the work on the decking my garden path was chokka with pots...

But next year!

I grow loads of veg too and this year most has gone straight to the pigs without even making it into the house for me and my husband. They love:

Carrots - especially the tops
Sweetcorn - nearly ready
Cabbage - any variety
Caul Rabi - flesh, skin and leaves
Beetroot - flesh skin and leaves but watch out for pink poo afterwards!
Peas - almost finished now but they love the leaves of the plant once the pods have stopped growing
French beans (wnd the plant leaves)
Brocolli - they love the stalk and leaves
lettuce (again not the dreaded iceberg)
herbs - sorrell is a favourite
Courgette (usually just the ends though as they are my favourite too)

we are growing veg and had about 20 or more little gem lettuces, which have all been eaten by the piggy mob. We were also growing broccilli, but they have been eaten to shreads and also the carrots have all been eaten from underground, though we are cutting off the green leaves so the gps can eat them. I am currently growing cabbages too, though something has started eating that too! We dont like to spray with pestisides, so all the bugs are getting the veg....oh and we are growing sweetcorn, but nothing happened with that yet! also peppers, though i am keeping my fingers crossed for that!

Do you cover your veg at all? It may be an idea to get some wire like whats on pigys hutches and make a dome with it over the top of the veg then cover it with fleece. It should stop alot of insects getting to them.
