Piggy going under GA

I have called highcroft and about to call them again.

I was told this morning that they don't have any exotic vets in today and that I was to call Rowe veterinary hospital to make an emergency appointment. I tried this and they also don't have exotic vets in until Tuesday next week.

I'm going to ask highcroft what they advise me to do next. As he has been referred, I'm not sure whether my vet can do any more for him than they have done already.

I'm at a real loss.

I don't understand why they haven't offered you an appointment with one of the general vets as this is an emergency. I would speak to your own vet and explain what is happening with Graham and the response you are getting from other vets, in an emergency a good general vet is needed if an exotics is not available.

Sending you hugs. I know how hard this is, you are doing everything you can for Graham. X

What you need is a guinea pig savvy vet. Just because a vet is an exotic vet, doesn't mean they are going to be any more experienced with guinea pigs. Sadly guinea pigs seem too exotic for most general vets and not exotic enough for most exotic vets.

I really hope you can find a vet who can help Graham.

Just got back from the vets. Graham has lost a lot of weight again. He now weighs only 1kg. On Wednesdays vet visit he was 1.04kg.

Vet was able to remove lots of food from his mouth again and flush/wash his mouth out. I then felt complete fraud, vet offered Graham a handful of grass and he walloped it down like his life depended on it 😲 she has advised me to feed him whatever he will eat as well as syringe feeding. She thinks it is likely that highcroft will do diagnostics on him. Bloods etc.

I came home and put grass in his bowl from the garden and he munched his way through it all.

Feel like he is playing games with me! He's certainly pulling on my heart strings that is for sure!
