This evening Bess has started squeaking really loudly when touching her back and sides, I don't know what the matter with her is, she seems quite distressed :-( unsure what's going on

Does she seem bloated, is there anything wrong skin-wise? Is she eating and drinking? When you touch her, does she want to nip at you? There could be any number of reasons. I'd keep a close eye on her and see what develops. x

Nothing skin wise, but all the rest yes, eating and drinking lots she feels much bigger than Bea tummy wise and yup she defo wants to nip me when I touch her x

It does sound like she's in discomfort. It might be something digestive, but if she's eating and drinking OK that's a good sign. Poops? I assume there is no chance she could be pregnant? That can make sows a bit tender around the tum...

Does her belly feel enlarged and hard in places? Bloat and gas build-up can be partial, it is not always the full article.

If she was pregnant, she wouldn't change her figure quite as quickly from one day to another, and she shouldn't scream, either.

I think it's a 'wait and see' situation. If she's the same, or worse, in the morning, or if you are worried, see your vet. It doesn't sound like it's serious at the moment.

Thanks Piggyfan. It can be a sign of mange mites if they nip at you when you touch them. My Millie took a chunk out of my arm when she had them before we realised. A vet visit is needed to get a proper diagnosis. If it is mange mites she will need a course of Ivermectin preferably by injection. Is there any hair loss or any hair broken half way down the shaft? Anything that looks like specks in the hair this could be skin debris if so. Other possibilities are fungal, is the hair greasy at all or does the skin look fluoresced? any scabs? .

Glad she is eating and pooing ok, keep an eye on this though and let us know if there is any change or if she appears bloated or has any laboured breathing. This does sound skin related to me though the enlarged belly confuses matters and does possibly point to bloat or a bit of gas.

She weighs 608g this evening and 5 says ago she weighed 542g no laboured breathing, no hair loss or damage hair isn't really greasy and no scabs that I can see

Ok thank you. I do think a vet visit is needed (tomorrow if possible) if she is uncomfortable. Glad there are no other signs of a skin condition.

That's good then, if he takes her he will need to ask about pain relief if it did turn out to be mange mites.

60g in 5 days is quite a lot; you may want to have that investigated, especially in connection with her suddenly not wanting to be touched.

I was thinking the same thing Wiebke. Is there any sign of any lumps or anything like a cyst?

Has her diet changed recently eg has she had more greens or fresh grass. It sounds like something to do with her tummy. You say she's pooing ok but is it normal amount, I know that's hard to judge especially if she's in with others.

Hey everybody, sorry for not updating, bess has seemed so much better last two days no more squealing etc and has been enjoying cuddles and snuggles and even licking my other half (which is new) still has a rounded back end though, which is new and has put on a further 10g (today is weekly weigh day for all my B piggies, so that's 75g this week which I think is the most any of my piggies have ever put on in any single week, she has overtaken Bea who is only 560g. Bess is 617g they were nearly the same weight when I got them, they all get the same things though except Bertie who is fussy

Because she seemed so much better yesterday the OH didn't take her to the vets, I'm slightly concerned about the weight gain, she's currently enjoying having her chin scratched, almost a completely different piggy from Tuesday x

That's good. If you think she is gaining weight excessively it would be a good idea to get her checked at the vets, just in case.

How is Bess now, can you give us an update please.
