Poor old Tofsky! Clean VetBed in today and noticed some smears of blood soon after :( Can't tell if it's Toffee or Fudge at the minute although Tof had a UTI once before - we've given them both a bum bath (they're both elderly and like to pee and then continue to sit in said pee) and now they're like "are you serious mum? You just BATHED me, and now you want me to pee for you? In your dreams, stoopid" :'D Ordered some Advantage too, as poor kids have picked up lice! Luckily they're both absolutely fine in themselves - eating and drinking well, still destructive and adorable! No pain on peeing (yet :/) and still plenty of poop about! Off to the vets again tomorrow - safe to say Toffee and Fudge don't like their mummy very much right now :D

Poor boys! All the best for you to get on top of it all. It sounds like sightly lowered immune system. I hope that you can get to the bottom of it all.

UTI in the very early stages is very off and on and it may take several days before the symtpoms are clear enough for a reliable diagnosis.

Thanks Wiebke! They are both so sweet, little angels <3 Hopefully the vet can check both out and suggest something to heal them x

If you suspect UTI, I would recommend some mildly diuretic veg to help them pee out as many bacteria as possible and ease any discomfort until the meds kick in. Young dandelion, cucumber and lettuce can help, as long as you do not overdo it and cause diarrhea.

So, back from the vets with Toffee! Sadly it's not good news :( The blood is not diluted and is more in smears so I was worried it is more reproductive than UTI!
The vet was fab with Tof-Tof again - as most of you already know Tof has 2 large masses which were thought to be cysts - one on an ovary (which has resulted in hormonal hair loss since a month ago) and one on her bladder.
Sadly, the one on her bladder has grown substantially since April to the point Melinda couldn't really reach to feel Toffee's bladder anymore :( It has also become very irregular and Melinda believes it's actually a tumour :(
So, poor Tof now has a bladder tumour - she is too old for surgery to remove it, or even determine if it's cancerous or not. Melinda added that the light bleeding may continue but as it's not infection related we are just giving her Metacam to keep her comfy.
She's very well in herself still and doesn't seem to be in any pain so we just keep going until it's her time.

Heartbroken </3

I'm very sorry to hear that xx

Same here. How sad. At least she doesn't know anything is wrong as she seems to be herself. Try to console yourself with that.

take each day as it comes, take lots of pictures so you have memories,I'm sorry you have had a difficult diagnosis.ive two piggies with cancer,i just give them the best care, and ensure they have lots of treats.

Oh no. Poor Toffee. At least she doesnt know. Hope she remains comfortable for as long as possible.

Such a lovely picture of the two of them relaxing.

@Merrypigs Sanctuary's sister here!
Toffee is fine tonight having floor time as normal, she's had a handful of oats as a treat which she loves!
She's still a good weight for her size at 1.09kg so all we can do is hope the tumour is benign! She is her same old happy self and has had these lumps for a long time so we can only hope she stays happy and pain free for a long time to come!

Mmmm oats!

So sorry for your sad news.

My 5yr old boy Rupert's got a second bladder stone and have been advised he's really not a candidate for surgery (Simon at Cat&Rabbit) so I'm having to keep a really close eye on him at the moment to make sure he's as comfortable as poss.

It's so horrible when you feel like you can't help them :(

All the best for you and Toffee xx

Lovely pic! She's enjoying them oats!
