:^- I haven't cut my guineas nails yet and i don't know what kind of nail cutter to use. Many people recommend human nail cutters and others prefer the guinea pig nail cutters... Also, I wanna know how to hold the pig and prevent it from jerking or botong while you cut its nails.. :) thanks! Peace! -c

personally i use piggy nail cutters.

everyone has there own ways of cutting them. i've found the best is a 2 person job one hold and cuts the other distracts with nommy veggies (parsley, coriander or dill are usually used in my house)

i can cut 7 out of 8 piggies nails on my own. the other 1 screams the place down!

i usually just sit them on my lap and hold the paws i want to cut. :)

Whatever cutters and method you choose always do the front ones first, they are the most fiddly, there's more of them and it's best to get them done before your piglet loses patience with you and decides to start complaining/wriggling/nipping ( they all have their own preferred method of letting you know they're NOT enjoying themselves) and making the job twice as hard. Good luck!
It does get easier with practice so don't despair if your piglets are not terribly co-operative. If you can sit by a window so that the light shines though their claws showing the shadow of the quick you're less likely to catch it ( little and often is best).

Aww little piggy nails! Any clippers are fine but I personally like human nail clippers. It is a goos idea to do the front ones first because they really do run out of patience! You can wrap the really upset ones in a towel and just pull out the paw you want to do. It just chills them out knowing that they are all cuddled up :)) Also some people think that it is better to get the stressful nail cutting out of the way with a bath (arguably it softens the nails) but once you get good with practice they wont even know what has just happened! Happy clipping! x

I always rope in OH when it's time for a nail trim. He cuddles the pig while I cut, that way I have both hands free to do the job and it gets done much quicker than if I'm trying to contain a restless piggy and cut at the same time.
He likes being roped in for this as he loves the pigs and enjoys cuddle time with them anyway! I use human clippers as that's what I've got.

I'm afraid I'm a big chicken when it comes to getting my tribes nails clipped. I book them in with the vet to get done. This also gives me the opportunity to discuss any concerns, they also get their teeth checked, weighed and a quick once over to make sure they're in fine health. Money well spent in my book. ;)

Human nail clippers for me...

I do it after a bath, so they are still wrapped snuggly in a towel. I pull up their front paws and do those quickly (but accurately...mine are easy because They have white/translucent nails)...then i hold them in tight and pull out one back foot at a time And do It quickly lol.

There are lots of videos on you tube showing you how to. Best to watch a few and choose the method you are most comfortable. I use proper piggie nail clippers or human ones, whichever I can find first!
