I know there is probably a thread somewhere like this, but I am really curious as to where all the wonderful piggies here (and of course the other lovely animals) got their names. I love the names and how each little sweetie seems to suit them so well, and I particularly love unusual names :))

I shall start at the beginning, for us there is:

Patch, who was named because we thought he looked like a patchwork of other piggies sewn together to make one lovely and special boy.

Then there was Alphonse (R.I.P little man) who we named after the younger (and larger) brother from an anime called Full Metal Alchemist. He was Patch's little brother even though he was bossier and bigger than Patch, his is sadly missed.

And we move to our pups, Hope and Gizmo. Hope (a PEW) is named after a feeling I got when I held him, as well as a silver haired child in Final Fantasy XIII. Gizmo was named after a mogwii! They're lovely and placid boys who are so cuddly!

And finally our youngest pup. Kadaj, who is named after a character from Final Fantasy VII, which is my favourite thing EVER! Kadaj, in the film is a bit of a mummies boy, like our little wiggle, Kadaj! Up until recently he only ever let me pick him up!

x) x) They are all gorgeous. Great Idea for a thread, I'll dig some pics out and post soon. Once a piggie has been named I can never imagine them been called anything else.

Same, and its even better when they start answering to their names, or the shortened versions or nick-names. Like I call Patch things like "Pudge" or "Fat-rat", Kadaj gets called "Dajy", theres "Gizzy" or "Baby Bull" for Gizmo and Hope gets called "Pew" or "Hopey-Hope" or "Soapy-Hope". We used to call Alphonse a few thing from "Phonzy" "Phonzy-piggy" "Pup" or "Aly-phonse".

I agree how once piggies are named they could never be anything else!
I have:
Luna- she's a white piggie so it just fitted.
Gloria- the hippo from the film madagascar :)
Nalah-lion king (I'm not 8 years old, honest :)
Martha- just a really sweet name, and she's such a gentle character
Drake&Coby- those names just appeared in my head when I first saw them :O
I like unusual names for my lot :) xx

Ooh, great idea for a thread! I go ahead with mine:

Bob got his name completely randomly, it just suited him :D

Woog, was originally named Hershey but the her nick-name took over, so now she's Woog. It was just something random that was fun to say!

Enrico and Fermi, both named after a famous nuclear physicist. Fermi is a sow, and Enrico is a boar.

Willow was already named when I adopted her, and I didn't change it

Now the rest of my piggies were named after Harry Potter characters; Fluffy, Dobby, Bellatrix, and Luna! :D

Luna and Dobby! Dobby is much bigger now

My white piggy was named smoke when i rescued him from my neighbour, i changed it to smokey as i thought it was a cuter name,
I got the brown one from a friend at school and i was going to call him bacon or bandit (to go with smokey) but one of the children in my class said i should call him Toffee as he has a toffee coloured stripe on his back.

My piggies names are all from the magic round about

(L) Tigger - I dunno but when I held her for the first time she just reminded me of a tiger (big fluffy face, her personality etc)
(R) Munchie - We have a bit of a sweetie theme going on here, so she's named after Munchies!

(R) Muffin - Keeping with the theme plus I like calling her a little muffin :)

Both have kept the names they were given at Milhaven :)

I've updated my pigture thread with the girls' first day out on the grass as a herd! :)

Onyx Sullina is on the Left and Velvet Duchess on the Right..........their Auntie Niki (from here x)) helped me name them i showed her pigtures of them when they were born........they were both black but Onyx had a little bit of tan on her tootsies.........
NOW look at them, Velvet's hair has gone lilac/grey and looooong and Onyx has more tan in her back now i think there names truly suit them x)

Ooh, I love threads like this and seing everyones inspiration!

Pippa was named by Simon before he even met her. The name just came to him, but it suits her well

Willow was 'Not-Pippa' for a good few days. Nothing seems to click. She was almost 'Delilah' but Willow won and now I love the name

Pixel was 'Baby-Pig' for about a fortnight rolleyes We had a list of names for her but nothing seemed right. We saw a photo of THE most gorgeous little mouse who was named Pixel and loved the name. So Pixel it was. I love that it's quite unique too.

Boris was almost 'Bosley' of Charlie's Angels fame, but Simon kept saying he wanted to call him Boris, I wasn't sure but now I can't imagine him being anything else. It did take about a fortnight for us to deicde though rolleyes

Marmite
was named by Simon within minutes of meeting her, mainly because of her colouring. I love how it's kinda cute, but not fluffy

As you can see, naming isn't our strongest subject and it takes forever for us to decide.. God help us if we have children!

All such gorgeous piggys! Makes me want to have even more, but I think my boys would have something to say! :))

My first Pig was called Nigel Gilbert Neilson. I think cos Mel & Sue on light lunch had a guinea pig called Nigel too. Gilbert because he was the size of a rugby ball - honestly he was enormous!

Nigel's cage mates were Clouseau and Kayto from the pink panther films as they never stopped fighting.... They ended up seperated eventually. Kayto preferred being a solo piggy.

I don't have pictures of them as I had them in my pre digital days when I was a kid but Nigel was Ginger and white with long bum-hair, Clouseau was a smooth tri-colour and Kayto a black and white crested.

My last pig was Dill after the herb

And my most recent two are Merry & Pippin after the hobbits in Lord of the Rings

They were originally named Norman and Kirby by Wendi at Thistle Cavies but I wasn't sure it suited them so They changed names for their new life with me.

No idea what the next ones will be called!

Harvey and Artie have very long names lol! They were named by my OH and myself when we first spotted them in the adoption centre...Harvey was sat in a bowl full of pellets quite happy munching away and Artie was zooming around, looking a lot like a hamster. We thought they deserved 'sophisticated' names...hehe!

Well...Harveys full name is: Harvey T. Gilamount (Harvey Tigger Gilamount)
minenomnom.jpg

Artie is....Arthur P-P Tibbles (Arthur Piglet -Pigaloo Tibbles)
