Hafthor has been on pain killers since Thursday due to an ulcer at the back of his mouth. He had gone off food almost completely before his trip to the vets and had lost weight. In the last few days he is definitely showing improvement and is eating more veggies and pellets, but he isn't touching his hay really and hasn't gained any weight. I'm giving him some critical care to supplement his food too, so I'm worried that he should have put weight on. Are there any foods that would be good to offer him? I've been giving him things to tempt him like dandelion leaves and lettuce, but I'm not sure if that's the right thing to do?

My boy had an operation last week so I’ve been trying to tempt him to eat also. I found that he wanted dandelion leaves straight after his critacare. At the moment it’s about getting him eating regularly and then I try him with fatten foods once he is better.
I’ve also been offering different hay but he seems more interested in the leaves and pellets right now.
The important thing is to make sure he had regular food right now even if that is critacare.
Speak to your vet if you are concerned. Some painkillers make the piggie very sleepy. I hope he gets better soon.

Piggies are the opposite of us, they can lose weight quickly but it's much harder getting them to put weight on!
