Took my little brother bowling today and decided to pop into pets at home, saw a very small black and ginger abyssinian guinea pig in the rescue section... my little brother Jorey also fell in love with her and we decided to bring her home. He has named her Sparrow after a character in his current favourite Xbox 360 game and she has bonded really well with Pumpkin and MJ :) I will have some pictures up soon :D

sparrow is beautiful x) no wonder you both fell for her x)

AWWWW - she looks SO like my late Mischief that it has given me a real pang!

I am glad that she is fitting in well in your new group!

shes definitely noisy haha, if you pick her up at the moment she goes off like some form of tiny hairy siren... i was surprised to see babies in the rescue and rehome section but i was told that the large sow that they were in with was their mother and that she had given birth to them in store. Apparently because they werent from their registered breeder they couldnt put them on the shop floor :S not that I'm complaining, shes stunning :) i'm pleased that they are all using the shelf hide as well and no one has been pushed out and they are all seeming very friendly towards each other :)

thanks everyone ^_^ I'm unsure of how to start handling her because she seems to really hate it at the moment... should i bribe her with veg?

I love that breed, their hair is fantastic! :(|)

I am not surprised you couldn't resist, she is a little babe. x)

With regards to handling, just lots of small amounts of contact will build her trust. When picking her up, try not to chase her round the cage. Put veg on your hand and keep it still until she feels confident to take it from your hand. :)

Aww, she's a little princess in the making! I'll warn you now, abbys know how to make your heart melt, they're just totally adorable! I love their little swagger, the way they walk is just so cute! Be careful handling her, because of her funky hair it may be uncomfortable for her. Get her used to you first. The way Pheobe, our abby, lets us pick her up is to put your hand on her back lick a saddle, then very gently press down, i mean very gently and only a tiny bit, then pop your other hand underneath and gently, but firmly pick her up!

She is just too cute! I automatically put my hand to my mouth and let out a large "awwwww!" when I saw her. OH just rolled his eyes :))

She reminds me of my Fluff:

awwww she does look like fluff :D, we got them all out yesterday for a fuss and some floor time. Mode of thinking was that if she was with the other pigs she would have some support and when she saw how much they enjoy it she would realise that were not gonna hurt her... She potters around exactly the same as our other aby Silver, the little chuntering as she walks as if shes making mental notes to herself or something haha. It was Matty that noticed how vocal she is he said that maybe its an abyssinian thing that they talk to themselves and shout so loudly (shes soon got the hang of the piggy wheeking veggie time bandwagon) :P

Our Pheobe is soooo noisy! But then, when she's at the food bowl she goes into a daydream type state, so cute!

Maggie-May our part Abby, part Peruvian dolly mixture has got the abby noise and swagger. They're both very friendly to the point they annoy the others, I think that's an aby trait too!
