Hi have a fat piggy whats the best foods to cut down or avoid? I know she needs more exercise too. She is only 14 months but a bit too plump for her age has been checked by vet and is fine just over weight.

Thanks in advance

Hi Karen,

Dry food is usually the culprit of excessive weight gain. Limiting that to just under a handful a day will do a lot for controlling weight, and plenty of exercise should tone her up a little.

Some piggies are naturally chunky though, so unless she has a lot of fat ("love handles"!) on her, don't worry too much about trying to slim her down. It's better to have a slightly chubby piggie than a slightly thin one.

Is corn fattening? I've heard it is but it always makes me laugh when people say veg is fattening. :) yep its pellets I give a handful a day and this is fine I have one pig that won't touch pellets (Eccles) and this is probably why he is slimmer than the others!

Good luck! She needs guiena aerobics! :))

plenty of veg and hay and very small amount dried food is the best option. Don't limit hay at all as this can be very bad! Is you are cutting down the dried you need to make sure they are getting enough vit c through the veg though!

Hi love, honestly i'd never slim down a piggie, if they're eating hay and good quality pellets and some veg daily and drinking.......i'd leave all alone, they're best of being a little over weight rather than under weight.
This is just my opinion and based on what i've experienced with my boys.
Remember too every piggie is different, it could be that she's just a bigger girl x)
