Hello people

well its a lovely day and I'm going to lie in the garden for a bit later, was thinking of putting the pigs in their run for a bit on the grass.

However they have never been outside before and I'm a bit unsure, plus the grass is quite long and needs cutting.

Can anyone offer their opinion/advice as to if i should do this x

They will love the long grass, so don't worry about cutting it. I started my pigs with half an hour at a time, they now get an hour, make sure they have water and plent of shade!

Also watch out for birds, if your pen is covered it should be fine and don't leave unsupervised if it is just an indoor run This is the advice I followed, I only have an indoor run, that any animal would get into so have to stay with my piggies during outdoor time!

When we put ours out for the first time we only had them out for 30 minutes to make sure they didn't get too scared and that they didn't get an upset tummy from eating all the grass. Only thing I would warn is it's very hot today, I debated putting ours out but I'm worried it'll be too hot for them. If you put them out definitely having a shaded area, or if possible put the run in the shade. Make sure they have there water bottle as well and you'll have to try to keep them cool. It's quite warm in our house today and I'm already fretting that it's going to be too hot for them so we have all the doors and windows open.

thanks guys i might do half hour but put them in the shade yipee I'm excited haha. its an indoor run and iv got a net for the top they will not be unsupervised at all. x

haha well it didnt go too well.

i put them out they didnt move hahaha for 30 mins. although craig did eat a bit of grass it was a terrifying ordeal for them x

First time normally is. Did you bring some hideys out for them?

Try again tomorrow and so on until they are used to it.

Poor babies, mine have always been outdoors so they didn't mind being put on the grass. I guess the big open space must be alarming for them!

I'd advise putting a little house in the run for them, and they can hide in that, put them out for 30 minutes every day that you can, or longer if they're ok, and after a while they'll come out of the house to have the grass. I hope they get over their fear soon because they'll love being in the run :)

Try to cover part of the run with some sheet or beach towel to give them a feeling of security.

It usually takes 2-3 times until new piggies get the hang of it!

Fred was terrified at first but by the 2nd time he had the hang off it, but then again the girls had been on grass before so they were a big help for him :)! xx

aaw thanks people.

I put the beach towel out for them they were hidden in that haha they just wouldnt move. bless them.

Ill try again tomorrow ahha xx
