Hey everyone, new to gpf but experienced piggy person!

Mikey, one of my boars, has a potential problem with his boarly parts. I noticed his entire genital area seemed swollen and puffy. When fully extruded, his penis looks misshapen and slightly sore at the tip (although he seems comfortable) and his penile styles/spikes are always on show. I’ve never seen this before with any other boars I’ve had? I have cleaned the entire area thoroughly as usual and can not see any obvious build up, debris, hair etc. I’ll get a picture later but any thoughts? Has anyone else had a boar whose styles/spikes have been permanently out? Is this normal?! They’re the first thing that pops out when I go to clean him!

TIA

Hmmm, how odd! We had one boar whose penile styles would always show as soon as his winky came out but it resolved itself. Perhaps a vet visit just to be sure? :)

This has occasionally happened with my boars for short periods where their penis has not fully retracted, but it's back to normal within an hour or so.

There is guidance on boar bits in

Boar Care: Bits, Bums & Baths

This includes -

Prolapsed penis
-The penis can sometimes not retract properly. Generally the problem rights itself.
- In some cases the penis cannot retract itself hangs out permanently. It needs stitching back by a vet to prevent the risk of injuries and infection. It is a minor procedure and not a full-blown operation

Hopefully a more knowledgeable member of the forum will come along and be more helpful soon

Thanks both! It’s been like this for a few days and maybe longer but I didn’t notice until a few days ago. He seems to be able to get himself tucked back in but it just seems so odd that his styles are so prominent... almost like they’re not retracting as the should! Can’t imagine having them exposed so easily is particularly comfortable for him! He’s had some eye trouble recently too so needs a check up next week - I’ll raise the issue then with the vet :)

Here’s what he looks like without being prodded (a bit puffy I thought in comparison to my other boars), and then up close with his ‘perma spikes’! Would be grateful for opinions before he gets his check up. Just some reassurance that it’s been seen before would be great tbh!

Does he look a bit purple/misshapen to anybody? (Sorry for all of this...)

Over cautious is good :like:
By the way the 2 prongs! Some pig keepers say that a boar with 3 or more is a sign that the boar may be infertil? But it may just be an old wives tail
