I have a dilemma. I have found a little red eyed white piggy in the adoption centre at P@H. She is all alone

My fear is that she will be picked up by people that will keep her alone. And because she is a red eyed white no one wants her. That she s why she is in the adoption centre.

My cage is 8x2 C&C grids. I already have 6 piggies. Could the cage hold another?

Thank you Sport_billy I have spare grids but I cannot extend the cage because it is already wall to wall. I do have a 2x2 loft on the cage but that cannot be included.

The cage is on a table because all of the boxes are underneath it, such as the nugget box and boxes for fleece and liners. My house is tiny, and we are far from having extensions built.

I want to know that my current set up can accommodate all piggies safely and comfortably before I do anything. As cruel as it sounds, if the cage cannot hold another comfortably then unfortunately I will not be getting the lone one. Sulk.

Two of my piggies are almost a year old, and only two of them are at or just over 1kg in weight. They get their veggies in the morning and they have nuggets and unlimited hay. I think that I just have small piggies. Four out of the six are Rex coats and the other two are short haired. I cannot take another boar because I have Snowy controlling the girls squabbles

I would love a L shaped cage, but I cannot cover the radiator at one end and the other end would cause problems with the ladder going upstairs (spiral staircase in future).

Flutterby I love your cage....I am quite jealous :)

Aww thank you :D What about adding a 2x2 extension in the middle so it is like a T shape?

If you feel you have the time and finances to cover the possible vet bills of another piggy then by all means add to the tribe :D

I just feel so sorry for her. She is a little sweetie...poor thing. I know that I cannot help every pig out there but she is a red eyed white and I know that many people won't want a red eyed white.

But I need to increase the size of the current cage. Sigh.

Snowy, my boar, is a red eyed white Rex and is more cuddly than a cat. I adore piggies with red eyes!

A lot of people are a bit spooked by the red eye thing in pets, I can't fathom why as it looks quite cute in rabbits and piggies. But I do have to say it's not my favorite look for rats, I prefer those with dark eyes as strangers are usually scared enough of them without adding red eyes to the mix.

Maud of of the rescue girl rats has pink eyes. She's cute but some think she looks sinister.

Go for it!

I saw one at the pet store the other day that had red/brown fur with the red eyes. She was gorgeous and I could have bought her home but I only have approval to have two piggies in our rental contract :(

This is so weird and funny you should say that because I was in exactly the same situation yesterday! Went in pets at home adoption area and saw a little pink eyed female (2years old) I already had 6 and yes I did say "had" because we came home with her! My advice would be yes! Just because I did exactly the same yesterday! :)) The one I adopted is absolutely wonderful, pink eyed piggies are my favourite. I hate it that they are over looked because of eye colour! Some people are just mean and this is why I prefer animals over humans.

Plus it's not like your buying her from the shop. If she's in the adoption area all the money goes to the charity and your freeing up the cage she is in so another animal can start looking for a new home. (Yes I am trying to convince you to get her) I'll show you a pic of her If you like (just to try and convince you abit more) :D

I am currently considering adding to my two. Just wondering about the extra cleaning, feeding expense, possible vet fees.

If you feel confident about all of those and can expand your (wonderful) space then ... go for it.

I got her!

The man who served us grabbed her and I never heard an animal scream so loudly before. I couldn't wait to get her out of that shop! She screamed whilst in her carry box so. Got her out and she snuggled against me all of the way home.

We have named her Lucky...because we went back to get her and because we cannot have any more.

She only came alive when she realised there were other piggies in the room and she tried to get in the cage with them. Rather than keep her alone she is in the pen with them and she is so chilled! She is the piggy next to the pink cuddle cup in the bottom pic.

I don't know for how long she has been on her own before

Congrats! So pleased for you and her!

I'm so happy for her and you, u are super for rescuing her.

So pleased you got her, congratulations. Lucky is very lucky to have landed on her little paws with you.

Yeyyy :) she is definitely a lucky little girl! So glad you got her she deserves a loving home with other piggies :)

Tiamolly that has been on my mind. She has run in to a food bowl in the middle of the pen, which I have now removed, but she seems OK. I will keep an eye on her just in case. She doesn't seem to have a head tilt or anything, but that does not mean that she isn't a lethal.

Are there any signs that a piggy might be a lethal?

Could you explain what a lethal is? Just curious? x

They are white guinea pigs with pink eyes that are usually blind, deaf, and have other health issues problems but there are more common white guinea pigs with pink eyes that are not lethals and are if you like "normal" Guinea pigs which is why some people worry that they may have a lethal.
@furryfriends (TEAS) may be able to help explain better than me, as I think they have some lethal Guinea pigs x
