Piggy proofing a room

Good morning everyone!

I've been reading a lot about how beneficial it is for piggies to have free-roaming time so I'm looking for advice on how to piggy-proof a room. Currently we live in a one bedroom apartment and we're thinking of using the kitchen as the free roam area. There are no wires on the floor level (like there are in our living room) and I've checked that there are no obvious gaps around the kitchen cabinets for our boys to get into and we'll probably be buying/making some kind of gate to block off the doorway.

Is there any other concerns that we would need to address/look out for? We'll be in the kitchen the entire time with our boys to keep a close eye on them.

I would just make sure the floor doesn’t have bits of food on it because they will eat it, or at least taste it.
Mine don’t like walking on the kitchen floor, I leave the door open from my dining room and they have never once gone in, even though they know that’s where the good stuff comes from! I think they don’t like the cold/sloppy tiles

If there are any areas you don't want them getting to you could buy a fence to corner off those areas. Although you've checked for gaps if a piggy finds somewhere they shouldn't go they will go there all the time. I found this out with my Elvis. The hardest to reach spot was his favourite for weeing and pooing in I have 3 of these fences from Zooplus which I attach together and his little corner is no longer available

I also put down a few towels on the floor for more grip and to absorb and wees.

Also make sure you put lots of boxes for them to hide is as they don't like open spaces. At first they might just hide in the boxes but they will get used to it and start to explore after a little while.
