Newish to piggies, and just a couple of questions.

How much veggies is the right amount to feed?

one of my piggies loves cuddles. When I go to stroke him, he will lie down, which I assume means he's getting comfy, but a couple of times, he flopped to lie on his side and did a sort of twitchy movement and wheeked. Not sure if that's bad or good. Also, if you're stroking him, and he keeps sticking his nose up at your hand, does that mean "go away"? Sorry for the silly question but I just don't understand piggie language very well yet!

Can't really comment too much on this post. When he puts his nose on your hand is it like a headbutt or just sniffing? My Rosie will headbutt if i stroke her head to say 'geroff me you're messing my hair up ;) '

And yeah it sounds like they are just relaxed and getting comfy :)

There are no silly questions. We all have to learn sometime. I remember the first week I had my piggies I just gave them a carrot with their food. Now I'm not sure about everyone else but I usually prepare three diiferent veggies and just fill their bowl with them. Eg. A chopped carrot, a handful of spinach, and a sliced stick of celery. But I vary it so its different combinations every day. Thats for two piggies. They get grapes and herbs etc. As snacks through the day. I can't say that is the exact right amount to feed but mine are absolutely fine with it.

I hope this answers your question.

50g of veggies per pig, per day is about right - if they have not had much in the way of veg before you got them it's best to introduce them slowly - start with 10g of one type, if that goes ok for 3 days, introduce 10g of another - so on until you have built up to the 50g and they are enjoying them. Some pigs like some veggies more than other types - each will have individual tastes.

If you find a pig get gassy (search Bloat) then that is a veg not to feed again - some pigs react, some don't. Bloat is a dangerous condition, this is why it's best to introduce veg in such small quantities.

Thanks for the replies. The nose in the air thing is similar to when he and his brother both do that at each other - is it some sort of dominance/heirarchy thing? I suppose thats a "get off - I'm not in the mood for cuddles". :( Other times, he just lies down and makes himself comfy for cuddles!

Have been giving them a mixture of veggies. So far their favourites are red pepper, cucumber and carrot but they love herbs too. And they adore celery but I'm not sure if it's ok to give often. They would happily munch loads of it every day :)

Celery is fine, just cut it into small pieces & try to remove the strands if they are too long. It sounds like your piggy likes you a lot! :)
