piglet

hi all

I'm about to rescue a pig and rabbit that live together in the same cage ::) now I'm not that silly even tho i have never owned a piggy before i do know that they are not suitable to live with rabbits due to dietary needs rabbit feet etc etc the thing is they have been living together for 6 months is it ok to separate strait away? i worrie both will be depressed and lonley however for the safty of the pig i assume sooner the better. i would like to get a friend for the piggy she is female and would need to be neutered first but how long should i wait before getting her a pal? also would it still be ok to let them exercise on grass together? before more friends come along?

many many thanks in advance

Hi there and welcome to the forum from us in OZ :)

ahhh good one, yes you're right they shouldn't be together, it's a no no :( :( :(
I suppose if you totally supervise they could have a little hello to each other, but i'd think it would be safer in a cage beside each other, then they can chat but piggie wouldn't get accidentally hurt :)

Well done for rescuing them O0 O0 O0

When the rest of the lovely people wake up tomorrow i'm sure you'll get some wonderful advice O0

bless you ty for the quick reply it is rather late but i cant stop reading about pig's and rabbit's should of mentioned she is called piglet so sweet

many thanks

xx

Well done you!
Yes, I would separate straight away. They would both be happier paired up with one of their own kind. A female piggie spey is quite dangerous for her so I would say its best to get her a female friend - if you go to a rescue they will help pair her up with someone she will get along with :)
Rabbits are best paired with opposite sex and are better off being speyed or neutered - speying female rabbits is important because they have a very high chance of deveoping uterine cancer otherwise and dying at a young age.
Are you planning on keeping them both?

Ahhhh! Well done you for saving them from an unhappy and possibly for Piglet short life. I agree with the others to split up asap would be the best and any grass time together would need very close supervision. Good luck with pairing up buddies for them both. O0 :smitten:

hi all

ty very much for all the advice i shall separate them strait away i do plan to keep bunny as well and shall have to find a little friend for them both cant stand to think of them all alone for very long. I think it would be best to let them have there grass time separate from each other but i could work it so they can see each other I'm getting very excited not much longer to wait now and i just know I'm going to fall inlove :smitten:

many thanks
