Hi There :)

My 4 year old boar Harry has lost allot of weight and has had diarrhea since i changed his nuggets. A couple of weeks ago I changed
their nuggets from Science selective to Vitakraft. He seemed to like them at first but i noticed after a week he stopped eating them. I then gave him other nuggets (I can't give you the name of them as they are just in a clear bag, my partner works at a pet shop, he was bringing them home for another pig) again, he seemed to like them but after a couple of days he stopped eating them. I then gave him Science selective yesterday but he hasn't really touched them. He has been eating hay, his daily bowl of salad and his salt crystal lick so i didn't really see anything wrong but this morning i noticed allot of diarrhea and he has lost quite a bit of weight. I cleaned out his cage 3 hours ago, he hasn't past any pellets, he hasn't touched any nuggets or hay, just drank a little water. His seems quite unbalanced and he his huddled in the corner (this is usually normal for Harry) but his eyes seems very sunken in.

I have informed the vet but they are not open till Tuesday. They have gave me an emergency number to call tomorrow. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience?
I would like to give him some veg as he hasn't eaten anything all day but i don't want to upset his tummy :(

Thanks,

Kayleigh

Hello Kayleigh,

To be fair, with the symptoms you have presented, I think you need to call the emergency vet and get him seen today as a matter of urgency. If he isn't eating or drinking, it huddled up and unsteady on his feel then something is seriously wrong. I hope you manage to get him seen at the vets ASAP.

Harry passed away at 3:30 today. He was brave and didn't suffer too much. I'm glad i got to take him home than leave him hospitalized. Thankyou all so much for your help. He will be awfully missed xx

I am very sorry for your loss. It did sound like things were already on a knife's edge when you posted. :(

RIP Hair Bear

So sorry to hear this. Piggies are so good at hiding illness. It can often be quite late by the time it's obvious to us.

Sleep well little one, it's all ok now. x

Thankyou all so much. It means allot. Harry was actually 5 years old not 4. I adopted him from one of my house mates a year ago, she neglected him after his brother passed away for over a year. The vet said because of his age and his poor quality of life, he didn't really stand a chance if he got ill. It seemed more serious than a lack of vitamin C she said, could of been cancer :/ The past year he was loved unconditionally and had Blossom my 2 year old bore for company. Blossom misses him very much and i will be getting him neutered as soon as possible so he can have some girly company. It won't be the same without him :(
