Piggy rubbish

Only having had two small animals at once it isn't too bad for me. I clean them weekly and spot clean when necessary. I've stopped using shavings now (partly due to cost cutting too!) I use shredded paper and newspaper, and hay/straw.

we have:-
1 green bin for household waste,
1 brown bin for green/garden waste etc
1 green box for glass,
1 green plastic bag for newspapers/paper,
3 green sacks - for plastic and tins & cardboard
1 compost bin

I remove the really soiled stuff and dispose in brown waste bin or household. The paper i remove and put into the compost bin - this seems to go down well with the worms. lol.
any other stuff goes into the garden. dig it into a border!
besides the shredded paper would only be going in the bin anyway - so use it with the pigs then get rid of it!
I try to use biodegradable bin liners too where poss. Although I'm not certain where it all goes when it gets to the site for sorting - i heard rumours that it all goes to the same place anyway!

our recycled stuff will go one week, then the houshold stuff the next.

we have same problems as some of you have said - they wont take a bin if the lid wont shut!

In our borough we have a fortnightly collection of non recyclables in a green wheelie bin but all recycling is taken weekly, we have brown wheelie bins for compost and our council state they will take small animal bedding and encourage you to wrap food scraps in newspaper so the entire contents of hutch just go in there.

I advertised mine on gumtree and someone came to take loads for their garden. I also take some to my local allotment but its a pain as the gate is often locked and I end up taking it home again :a19::(
