Piggy sleeping even more than usual

My rex pig is nearly 9 years old now ^_^ ive had him since I was 9 and I am 18 now but over the last week ive noticed he has been sleeping a hell of a lot more than he usually does.
He is still drinking but he is starting to eat less, My mum has given him some cabbage but he hasn't eaten much off it. His teeth are fine as ive checked them and are no where near to be causing him trouble, (he is dental pig and his back teeth have been done recently)

Do you think its just him getting old and is the old Grandpa he is now or could it be something wrong or him just getting ready to go across the rainbow bridge?

I'm a little worried as he doesn't do much until you actually disturb him while he is asleep to give him some food or more hay, then he just goes back to sleep.

Even when his next door neighbour starts of squeaking when he has heard you rustling in the kitchen Rex doesn't wake up demanding food.
Other than him sleeping and not eating as much he does appear to be a normal old piggy

arr pooe old boy, iam afraid i cant help but 9 wow he is an old boy, guess its a bit like an old granda sleeping a lot, hope he is ok an if any thing does happen we are all here for you :)p

It is normal at that very old age - he would be well over 100 years old if he was a human! Sadly, it is very rare for guinea pigs nowadays to live that long, so treasure him! Make sure that he is otherwise OK (weekly weigh-in, overall condition etc.); otherwise see a vet if you suspect a health problem.

Our first guinea pig when I was a child live to nearly 10 years old; and he spent most of his time sleeping at the end.

In old age they tend to sleep a lot more...... the eldest piggie i've had so far was 6yrs 8mths old, he wasn't a well piggie (also a dental piggie) but over the last year he slept heaps....often i'd have to nudge him to make sure he was with us!
Bless Rex he may also be getting deaf too? Maybe give him his food shredded or in long strips to help him eat, might also be a bit different for him too :)

Awww, bless him. He's an old man, like everyone else says: just keep an eye on him, enjoy your time with him, check his weight and give lots of love which I'm sure you're already doing, that's why he's reached such a ripe old age - well done you. x
 
Pigture coming up when I can find the camera, My mum keeps loosing it ¬_¬

He has seemed to have perked up today and his weight is 1.18kg which he has put on 0.02kg :D since last weight check
He is out in his run today with Mojo (his nextdoor neighbour and jogging buddy) He has eaten some grass and now has gone inside the house for a snooze, awww while mojo is still outside eating.

Will give him a bath later as he smells a bit urinary

Woweee! I've just seen his pigtures - he's ten! That's a super super age! He must have been very well looked after by you, as Wiebke said, treasure every moment you have with him x)

Rex is off to the vets later today for a tooth clipping.
He's now back to eating everything again since mum has decided that she will put the heating on in the morning. he must of been a tad chilly even mojo is sleeping in his house and not on top of it like usual

Still sleeping more often but he is an OAP. (Old Aged Piggy) xx>>>


¬_¬ I need to be in bed asleep but this damn half assed cold is keeping me awake
