Hi I'm new to keeping GP. One of my boars has taken to sleeping in the litter tray - no sure how i can stop this?
today his leg looks stained with urine and he's straching it - my gut tells me i should wash him - is that ok? but how?

any advice welcome , thanks xx

Hello, piggies sleep where they want.. What is in the litter tray? Just hay?

Mine sleep in the litter trays.I have aubiouse in them then the hay.Has never been an issue with mine

Mine often sleep in their litter trays, we have a layer of Fitch that soaks up all the wees, then lots of hay on top.

You can give him a bum bath in warm water. Just make sure he is supported the whole time and the water is shallow enough for him to stand in.

I've got ladies and even they often sleep in poo corner! I just make sure I clear it of poo regularly and keep it covered in fresh hay

This post reminded me of my Alby (rip) he loved sleeping in his litter tray. ;) Lol.

A warm shallow bum bath should do the trick.

Yep mine frequently sleep in their litter tray because it's underneath their hay bag. I actually prefer it, I stuff it full of cheap hay with the good eating hay in the bag. They tray catches all the dropped hay, and it's easier to change than the whole fleece.

Thanks everyone. The litter is in a corner of their tray. I use wood shaving pallets then straw and food bowl if hay next to it
I'll give his back legs a warm rinse.
he looks really cute sleeping there, he's only been doing it for the last week but he's stopping his 'brother' from using the toilet space, messy cage every morning now:no: oh well as long as he's happy but I might invest in another tray to keep the other boar happy too:))

I think as a rule piggies don't like to share! So 2 of everything

I think as a rule piggies don't like to share so two of everything is a good idea!
Also I think it is recommended not to use straw as it is too sharp, best to just stick to hay. You can always use cheaper hay for the litter tray. Although weirdly our two piggies seem to like eating cheap hay more than the expensive stuff!

Ah thanks! that really important info .......I will definitely get another litter tray. I'm really disappointed in the pet shop I got them from the girl didnt give us any advice really. She even led me to believe they were brothers because they were the same colour :hmm::td: and that they'd get along. They dont get along at all. She said thought they'd already have bonded being kept together in the shop with their supposed siblings :blink:clearly not. I'm hoping that I can improve their happiness by making them a C&c cage and of course the additional thrones to toilet in :yahoo:
