Do piggies get splinters ?
just this evening on my evening bum checks, I noticed my female had a patch of 5-7 light brown pieces of hair or hay in her lady pits. I was able to use tweezers to pull out with no discomfort or pain from her ?
is It possibly a splinter or should I get her checked ?

Guinea pigs have their scent gland, which they use for territory/group marking, just in front of their genitalia. That is why they regularly wipe their bum on the floor and why muck and shed hairs can accumulate especially in boar sacs.

It depends on the bedding; normal guinea pig bedding should be soft enough that splinters cannot happen. It's so far never been a problem with any of our members. If you use wood chippings, there are some great ecologically more friendly alternatives. Or you cover the wood chippings with a layer of soft hay to prevent pick up.
