I have a dumb question. What is piggy urine supposed to look like? One has clearish urine and the other like a brownish yellow. No smell to either and nobody makes noise when they potty. Both are eating and drinking and acting just fine. Just curious. My daughter said it's normal. I looked it up and Google says it may be because he is very young. I know the vet said he was much younger than Seth.

Urine can be quite stained; some foods can colour it.

Beware of pink urine - that needs to be seen by a vet.

Bertie does orange wee, when he has had a carrot. I mentioned it to the vet and they said it is normal!

bertie drinks and wees a lot but the vet said it is probably just normal for him. boys will be boys!

There are no dumb questions when you are asking for help with a piggy :)

I have a very good exotics vet who told me that guinea pig urine can be anything from creamy to dark brick red and that it can change.

Others on this forum have told me that colour changes happen when oxygen hits the wee - I've seen this happen myself on a piece of kitchen roll.

Signs of trouble would therefore be dark red in the wee as soon as it comes out, and of course any squeaking / noises during urination need to be checked out ASAP.

My vet told me if I suspect blood to syringe up some of the urine, put it in a little test tube with a lid (he gave us the equipment), he said if you shake it very fast, if it's blood the red and 'normal' urine will separate, if it's normal it will all stay one colour. If you're ever unsure, take them to the vet, best to have your mind at ease x
