Hiya everyone,

Came home from work yesterday only to hear one of my piggies making a really strange squeaking noise-one I haven't heard before. After watching him for a while it looked like he was tensing his stomach up when he was making this noise. Picked him up and he's got really quite bad diarrhoea, i've left him in peace for today whilst at work as he seemed totally fine in every other way.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do with an icky stomach? I've cut his food right down and made sure he drank plenty of water for dehydration, and I will take him to the vets ASAP if he's still like it when I get home. Is there anything I can give him to help this? Does this sound serious or does this happen more often than I think? All my other boars are fine so no worries there. Any ideas would be great :)

Get some rehydration therapy powder and make up in a jug as per instructions on the packet.Give little and often by syringe. This is most important for diarrheoa. Remove all green food for a couple of days till the pellets are normal.Carrot, corn etc can be given in small amounts.Encourage him to eat lots of hay and dried grass.

Immodium (Lomital) can be given at the dose rate of hald a capsule or half a tablet every 8 hours.Do not give more than 3 doses.

If the diarrheoa is profuse and he looks hunched up,best to get him to a vet because he may have a bacteria infection which may need antibiotic.

Keep him warm

really hope your little boy gets better, i was told by a vet in aussie land one a piggy gets the runs it is a death sentence. he said to us years ago when 2 of our pigs had the runs. that time he was right. 0:) 0:) 0:) 0:) 0:)i am hoping this time he is wrong! sending hugs and cuddles to you and your fur baby. :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: i would strongly suggest a vet visit even to just ease your mind. good luck. thinking of you both! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: lots of grass and hay to help his tummy and vitamin C supplement. hugs and cuddles!
