We decided to get another piggy to join our girls. We went along to pets at home and selected a lovely piggie. Have to say we were so impressed with the health check. The shop lady picked up that the piggie has extra toes that were black and dangling off. The piggie was taken to the instire vet who has decided to remove the extra toes. We can go back next week and collect piggie once she is all better.
 
Bless her. Things like that usually come from inbreeding but aren't always a problem unless they are likely to get caught. I've had one that had an extra toe. It was like a skin tag with a nail on but never caused her any problems
 
Yes that’s what pets at home said. The vet wants them off though as they were black and dead and would easily tear.
 
One of my sweeties has an extra toe, well a tiny toe with a nail. Doesnt seem to cause her any probs. Hope your new piggie recovers well and settles in with your girls when the time comes.
 
We had a call from PAH today about our piggie. They got another vet to look at her and that vet said no point removing the toes as the risk of an operation is greater than having a couple of extra toes. They then referred her to a vet in London (over the phone) as we are in Durham and that vet too agreed she should keep her toes. So today we bought her home and PAH have said they will cover any vet fees for life for her!
 
Grat outcome. What a beautiful guinea pig.
