Hey there, so we went away for a week and had someone come and feed Caramel (Male, aged 3-4), when we got back we noticed he had quite a large bald spot on him, we also noticed he had 4 big ants on him.
We're letting him live inside for the moment to see if he gets any better, I was thinking I could put some Papaw Ointment on the bald spots but from what I can tell it hurts when the bald spot is touched.
I don't know if this information would help, but his brother dies a few weeks ago so he's been living alone.
Any ideas on what this could be and what we should do? A vet trip would cost quite a bit of us but i'm trying to convince the family to let me take him.
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum

I’m afraid we cannot guess what it might be - could be parasites, fungal, could be from him biting the area due to an underlying pain, They can also self barber due to stress.

He needs to be taken to the vet for a diagnosis and the correct treatment.

We do not advise the use of any home treatments. Please don’t put anything on it before seeing a vet as it can either be the wrong thing or it can hide the evidence a vet needs to make an accurate diagnosis.

I hope he is ok

The ants shouldn't be in his enclosure as he cannot avoid them. Keeping guinea pigs indoors is the safest way of looking after them. I hope things go OK for you and Caramel ❤

Hello and welcome to the forum. I hope you can get Caramel to the vets and it’s something easily treated.
