Hi All,

Well I was feeding Cuzzy and the girls some Hay after I picked Emily up from School. The girls (humans...lol) where in the garden playing when all of a sudden Emily shouts me to say the hutch door was open! I ran into the garden to find Emily shutting the door but she couldn't lock it herself! Caitlin had opened it! The little minx! Thankfully Sunshine and Twinkle ran the other way into the main area of the hutch so no damage was done but I was so shocked at the thought of what could have happened!

We are now going to padlock the hutch so little fingers can do no more damage! Poor Caitlin she didn't realise, she's only 2 and loves the pigs she said 'wanna cuddle' so I didn't tell her off too much, just told her not to do it and ask mummy first.

Kids and piggys its an explosive mixture!

Yeah I was a nervous wreck with them in the garden! Emily is sensible though and well yell if anything happens! Can't wait to get them into the shed, it will calm my nerves!

A padlock is a good idea for now, definately! that was close ;) Also, I hate those hutches that just have the peg type latch, you know a piece of tiny wood that turns? Once they wear a bit, a piggie could easily nudge the door open :(

Yeah I don't like them either. I have two Lavender Lodges and they have proper catches but Caitlin can open them. I wouldn't mind but I have trouble opening them sometimes!

Kids, childproof locks are only adult proof. ;D. Glad the piggies are ok. O0
I had to padlock the chipmunks I had years ago when Connor was little, after a similar thing and boy, they didn't like being caught.

Lol - Kids eh?!
Glad it just turned out to be a heads up to the situation.

I had a similar thing with one of my daughters friends who is also a neighbour. I can barely get on of the sliding bolts open on a certain hutch but this little brat treasure managed to get it open & she's the scrawniest weediest kid about. I found one of my pigs eyeing up her boar neighbour nose to nose through the wire. Have taken measures to prevent this happening again - kid isn't allowed round anymore! :D

AH bless, at least everyone was safe...my 2 year old is obsessed with the " doggas" as he calls them, he just doesnt get the whole guinea pig name ! Luckily up to now hes never decided to get one out by him self and up to now ive never really thought about it happening so your thread just gave me thought to be more secure..thanks xx :)

Oh I know what you mean about other kids! Emily's friend has been here a couple of times. I said come and see the pigs and she went charging at the hutch and banged right into it! 98) She wasm't gentle like my girls so I don't let her come anymore! The boys where quite scared!
