Hi, I have two male guinea pigs who I’ve had for over a year now, they live in my bedroom as I still live at home with my family. All of a sudden they've developed a habit of squeaking non stop at night time around 3am, every time I move they start squeaking and sometimes I don’t even have to move and they squeak like crazy! I’ve tried putting more hay in their cage but they have two hay racks so they tend to not get too low during the night time. The same with water, but they have two water bottles which I fill up everyday so it definitely can’t be their hay or water getting low. I’ve seen people suggesting to cover up the cage but that’s really a last resort for me as I just feel like that will really shut them in plus they squeak at me even when I don’t move during the night. I’ve never fed them at this time, they get their breakfast at around 6/7am as thats when I wake them up for work most days. I’ve tired putting more toys in the cage at night time but my pig teddy is the only one who is really interested in them, and only a select few. My other pig smudge only cares for anything food related, he rarely ever plays with toys. If anyone has any suggestions of good boredom breakers for piggies I’m willing to try them out. I’m really stuck on what to do now as it’s really starting to affect my sleep and it want it to stop ASAP as I don’t want this to develop into a regular part of their routine. If anyone has any suggestions that would be brill, Thankyou :)

Guinea pigs can be noisy and there’s nothing you can do to change that I’m afraid. They don’t really play with ‘toys’ either. Have a look at the guide below for enrichment. Is there an option to move them out of your room?

It’s so strange as they’re never done it before, I always try and give them floor time everyday alongside with their dinner, I can trust them to stay on the fleeces that I lay out on the floor so I can open the cage up, lay the fleeces down and they have free roam of my bedroom whilst I have my downtime in there in the evenings. I always make sure they have plenty to do when they come out, they have tunnels and cardboard tubes with hay in, I’ve tried foraging boards with bits of food in but they’re not really interested in them. I can’t move them out of my bedroom as there isn’t anywhere else in my house that the cage would fit, I got rid of most of my furniture to fit a decent sized hutch into my room. I will have a read of the enrichment guide, thanks

:agr: if my piggies were in my room they would definitely start wheeking whenever I moved. They get very excited when they hear me walking down the hall way. Hope the enrichment guides help
