Pine bedding

I usually use paper bedding but when I went to the store they only had pine. I bought two bags and looked up if they’re safe and the answers differ. I was wondering if it was okay for my piggies to have this bedding. I’m not able to take it back so if its not safe can I mix it with the usual paper bedding?

Hi!

It is usually not recommended for guinea pigs because of the fumes it gives off. You can use it in a pinch but please switch back to paper as soon as possible or immediately if you notice breathing difficulties.

It’s my understanding that pine is not safe for guinea pigs as it can be highly irritating to a guinea pigs respiratory system and can cause an allergic reaction.
